There was a faint thud against the patio glass door and a little body fell onto the outside mat. We rushed outside and there lay a little bird - it looked decidedly dead. It's little body was limp and the eyes half shut and glazed. My 'girly' picked the little mite up and cradled it between her cupped hands - she held it for a while and then transferred it, still prostrate, to my old gardening cap. She then went out into the garden and dug up a small worm and dangled it over the little bird. Miracle of miracles, the bird opened its eyes and started shaking - then it stood on its fragile, spindly little legs and then closed its eyes again. It seemed to sleep for about twenty minutes, then opened its eyes and shook itself. What a beautiful little bird it was, with its chocolate brown plumage and orangey red breast - how precious - a genuine garden Robin! Seeing it had regained consciousness, we took the cap, with the Robin nestling inside, out into the garden,

Msg1/Cont'd: whereupon, sensing its freedom, it flew out of the cap and fliited into a nearby tree. When it alighted on a branch, it looked down at us and started singing - as if thanking us! How lucky we had got to it before the pussycats................ !!!

jimmyG/Msg 3: Thank you for your nice comment! I omitted to mention that while my 'girly' cupped the little 'Robin Redbreast' between her cupped hands, to warm it up, her eyes welled up with tears. I am, maybe made of 'harder stuff', but I must admit I was fairly choked. But, hey, those tears of initial sadness turned to tears of indescribable joy, as the recovered little Robin sang to us from that tree!

Well, all I can say is that we put the worm on the patio, opposite the tree - in a few minutes it was gone. Although, I can't say 'hand on heart', that 'our' little Robin scoffed it!
