Cyprus border crossing at Pyla

Arry i was told that you used the border crossing recently at Pyla when the insurance booth was closed.

I am hiring a car at Larnaca and thinking of using this crossing end of December, I am expecting to be there about 11pm ish, will it still be possible to get insurance for the car at this time ?

Yes mate i use the border regular and i can tell you it usually shuts at 8 pm

I had to use Nicosia last time, bit of a long way round either that or you wait till morning.



I did have her phone number, if i can find it i will get in touch. She said she would wait up for me . I got there at 10-30.

You're right mate i can get from Larnaca to my apartment in Bahceli in 1hr ten mins. Driving at all the speed limits of course !!!!

I have used Pyla a few times (admittedly at night,10.30 ish) and always gone to the house on the right before the Passport booth to get insurance(strange thing buying insurance in someones front room,but typically TRNC),never seen the insurance booth open.Anyone done this and asked how late she will serve you(with insurance,Groucho !!)

The lady's name is Robeye and normally she closes about 8 but she said she would stay open if she knows you are coming. She gave me her phone number but i cannot put my hand on it.When i find it i will post it

I have been through at 8.oo am and she has been open. The cafe opens early now so she will be there

Ok,my turn for a blond moment (i wish), is the insurance woman the same one on duty in the booth that resides in the house(100 yds) prior to the passport booths on the right ,if so what are the approx opening hours ,to the nearest hour or guestimate.

That's the one mate' opening hours roughly 7-30 am till 8-00 pm

I specifically asked at the Insurance Office today on my way to the Dhekelia SBA and they open at 6 am and are open until 9 pm... 7 days a week.... So Corbytown I guess you are stuck with not being able to cross using Pyla...

As previously mentioned i have aquired insurance out of hours (10.30 sunday evening) by going to the house.Dont know if this info is any help or even the exception or the rule in my case.

That's why I went and asked both the people there today and they said no... 6am to 9pm only.... I would hate to advise someone that 10:30pm was the time and then they get stuck at the border...



If they are up and about maybe you could be lucky but I don't think it's wise to rely on it.... things change.
