The much talked about and award winning Solo Turk supersonic F16s will definitely be adding serious excitement to the TRNC Republic day celebrations this coming Tuesday the 15th.

I watched them yesterday, from my balcony in upper Girne, do an expedition flight for few minutes as they arrived over the island. No aerobatic moves but they are clearly saved for the actual show on Tuesday - unless they practice some moves today or tomorrow. They can be recognised by their unique color scheme and make a lot more noise when flying overhead than the Turkish stars that we are often used to watching here.

It is the team's 3rd or 4th show since they were introduced first time beginning of this year. You can see some of the moves in this video:

As far as I am aware, the ceremony in Girne is around 3 pm and the F16s are scheduled for a show at 3.30 pm. I shall update this if I notice any changes...

Deniz1; I do not think they will cancel the show because of clouds because what's been up there have not been that low. In any case, they did their first airshow in İzmir some 6 months ago when it was overcast.

Her Indoors; The show will be over the Girne (old)Harbour - the "Liman", focused at the square opposite the Ataturk statue near Dome Hotel. So anywhere along the coast from there, leading to the light house at the entrance of the Girne harbour would be ideal location to watch the show

Treyturk; the only thing you might see from Lapta is a distant image as they fly along the coast and do a wide turn to South-West. But from what I have seen the other day, they are more likely to do their maneuvers out to the sea and back.

I keep saying "they", but I do believe it is actually one aircraft at a time that takes place...

Our ISP, Sunny Cyprus, always send us an email about the air display. I've received one from them this morning to say the show had been cancelled due to the weather.
