dvdjohn - next week with any luck! I don't really mean that, it wouldn't be good for those who are paid in TL, or who are living on the interest from TL Bank accounts

HI Keith, if you have your money in TL, as long as you don't need to change it back you are fine. Been here many years, the only problems have been the greedy bank owners who did a bunk with our money. Got most of it back but lost 3 yrs interest and £1.800 from the investment, so we nearly got the Tshirt. Used to get 16% on sterling in them days, but happy with 8.5 % on TL. We are thinking of a move to Turkey for a change but keeping a bolt hole here, we will get 8 % in the Turkish banks . Getting Island happy need a change. John.

dvdjohn, I wouldn't worry about hijacking the thread - laptajack's query was answered in msg 2 by that kind soul Deniz1 Besides, it seems (to me) to be a universal law of forums that all threads go off-topic after a certain number of posts - and a fair few end up in La-La Land Anyway, what I meant was that if the TL devalues against other currencies, then imports become more expensive. This might not appear, at first sight, to be such a big deal for locals - unless they've developed a taste for Heinz baked beans or Ferraris , but it does put up the cost of Fuel for cars & Lorries, Gas for heating, & Electricity production (which relies on imported fuel). The overall inflationary trend is inevitable, even given the 'social' nature of the TRNC's price regulation policies - and don't forget, the cash to pay for those subsidies has to come from somewhere - Taxes! - & who do you think they will target? Me - that's who! At least, that's what it feels like...
