The Turkish Minister for European Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bağış has said that a solution to the Cyprus Problem on the basis of political equality would be beneficial for the future of Turkey, the two peoples in Cyprus as well as the rest of the region.



The Turkish EU Minister and Chief Negotiator gave important messages to the world in an interview broadcast on Bayrak Haber yesterday.



Pointing to the Greek Cypriot Side’s intransigent stance at the talks, Bağış said that a solution in Cyprus could only be reached if both sides showed the necessary effort, compromise and willingness.

He said that it will be the Greek Cypriot Side’s fault should the current process fail to achieve a solution by the end of this year, a fact he added, the whole world should acknowledge and accept.

“We shall not allow the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus to pay the price for the failure of the talks” Bağış added.



The Turkish Minister also praised President Derviş Eroğlu for his outstanding performance and endurance at the talks for a man of his age.

The TRNC has been paying the price for what Turkey has done and continues to do for years.
