President Christofias has said that the Turkish Cypriot leadership has reneged on convergences achieved on important chapters of the Cyprus problem, while at the same time is submitting positions and proposals that fall outside the agreed basis.

He said that despite the fact that some progress has been achieved in the negotiations on the Cyprus issue, the Turkish Cypriot leadership has reneged on convergences that have been achieved on important chapters of the Cyprus issue, while the same time is submitting positions and proposals that fall outside the agreed basis, ”as he said.

”Away from the negotiating table,” he added, ”the current Turkish leadership behaves with aggression and provocation, making statements that negate the basis of the solution and cancel every effort for progress.”

I think you'll find it was Christofias who accused the President of making a U-turn!

Of course he did; he's staring at the endgame in the Cyprus negotiations and realising that he will only be remembered as being the RoC leader when the island split. His actions, both internationally and domestically, have left him isolated in the hot seat, he has promised his people unlimited wealth from the hydrocarbon fields around the island, but with no way of getting the gas to market, and the prospect of assuming the rotating Presidency of the EU, thereby terminating the Turkish accession process, must fill him with dread.

His only chance is to try and show the other side as the bad guys, following his predecessors' examples. Unfortunately for him, the world is now realising the GCs are the intransigent ones.
