It is pretty accepted wisdom that if peple have a good expeience then they don't spread the news as much as those who have a bad experience. Given that it is unlikely that any will need encouraging but we will see if this thread becomes an epic! Paul

I think this is a poor idea... for the following reasons... If you have a thread for recommendations... surely not being on it is enough without giving credence to slander and libel.... The fact is that even the best restaurants sometimes get it wrong... what they do to rectify it is very important but you must also remember that some people are just never satisfied and want to belittle others... and should the post in question stand no matter how unjustified it will harm the business.

Groucho I tend to agree but as I stated in a completely unclear way I think you are fighting human nature. P

Paul "It is pretty accepted wisdom that if peple have a good expeience then they don't spread the news as much as those who have a bad experience. " One of the good things about this board is that we get to share tips on the best places.... Some people like to do damage that much is clear... but it's a very blunt instrument and I think the board's members should be very cirmcumspect before opening themselves to prosecution whereby the burden of proof will be on them should they be sued... it has happened. Need I say more than "McDonalds"... wash my mouth out with soap!

If i get ripped off then i will never return to that restaurant un less it changes hands . If i go to a restaurant and i receive a poor meal /service i will return just once more , as everyone can have bad days and a chef is no exception . You have to admit anyone who cooks can not get it right all the time so to speak , so let us face it any restaurant who continues to serve food /service that is not up to par will be out of business within weeks .

Paul, I was referring to the vendetta that McDonalds pursued against some private individuals who had dared to criticise the nutritional value of their product on the internet and totally bankrupted these people for their troubles... So be warned... people who blacken the name of businesses, even if it's true that you had a bad experience, without being able to prove it in court you are guilty until proven innocent... perverse though it may be...

I agree with Groucho. No good can come of it. If you are dissatisfied with your meal/service speak to the management of the establishment and give them an opportunity to rectify your complaint. It's only fair to do that.

There is enough slagging off on here as it is. This would just open up a huge can of worms, with threads leading off all over the place. Let it be !!

We've had name and shame threads on many a BB before and they never work.. Let's stick with a "Good Eateries List" and be satisfied that we are only recommending the consistently good ones... In that respect can I ask personally that we all try a place several times before we give it a Cyprus44-"Michelin" Star because we've been steered towards a few recently that to be honest were well below par on the basis of one visit by the person doing the recommending... and no I'm not naming them, neither will we be going back or putting off others... We will continue to give recommendations where we have been given good honest fare at good honest prices.... particularly where the ambience (never been) of the place is conducive to an enjoyable meal.. This includes the attitude of staff etc... and no we don't expect hat-doffing sycophants... just friendly and efficient.. minimum fuss.. can't abide being asked if the meal is OK by four people in a row.... it does happen... yuk!

Too many people judge a restaurant on how big a plate of chips they get with their meal and others write a critique based on a very limited knowledge or experience. Places are often flavour of the month almost trendy for no culinary reason. I pay no heed to just about any report I see even the foodies in the Cyprus newspapers talk twadle most of the time. Go yourself, if you like it go back if you don't stay away but please don't try to get all Fay Maschler about it!

Pipie, Just say it before you get to the third bottle of wine; otherwise you are into "fat-coughing psycopaths" Oh, I do believe we've been to that restaurant too!

If eating a pie on the hoof while walking around the lambousa market with bits of pastry falling on your shirt is your idea of the ultimate food eating experience then who are we to access any comments made about restaurants you have or in some cases have not visited.

Aslan, Did someone say that it was? Sorry but you've lost me now... Anyway, even the most discerning palate can partake of simple fare and enjoy it on occasion... I was watching Rick Stein eating a bacon butty only the other day and I have to agree with him that it is still one of life's great pleasures... no shame in that....
