Hello,

I have just the crazy idea to go next week for a few days to Karpaz and would like to camp for a few days on the beach. My question is: Is it allowed? Or can I get any problems? (Just in case that someone see me.)

And is here maybe by chance someone who would like to join? I will go there to relax and to forget the world for a bit. So, please no party people ) This another time in the summer ;-)

Thanks for you help.

Cheers

Gordon

By the sounds of the weather you're having over there, it'd be pretty wild if you went this week

I hope until next week is it better. I don't have anything against a bit rain... as long as I get also sunshine And a thunderstorm in a ten can be pretty! ;)

But first I need to know if it is allowed to camp just somewhere

The karpas is a protected area, you are only allowed to camp in the camp sites which are available there, but at this time of year they will most likely be closed.

If you are coming from the South you may find you get a visit from the police in the karpas, as you will have number plates from the south, this are is patrolled by the police due to illegals trying to enter from across the water, not just Turkey.

Your best bet is to book into on of the cheaper accommodations available there.

I dont know if it is legal , but do be prepared to be woken up at crack of dawn by an inquisitive sheep entering staring into your face and a couple of goats eating the guyropes!

If it's just goats ... ok. But more worse is the imagination to be woken up surrounded by people in green which holding me their guns under my nose... it is not so great

Yes, I am coming from the south with south number plates.

Does anybody know if there is still an camping place open this time? If not... the only solution is to try, I guess

Just go for it that's part of the fun they will only move you on...one issue the police do have is if you light a fire

Be careful on Sunday morning, we went in February a couple of years ago and the hunters got very close, we had shotgun pellets raining down on the tent at 6.30 in the morning!

Maybe you should go next to one of the official places (like Burhan's Place) - so if the weather is getting really bad you can ask for asylum..

As far as I know Burhan doesn't stay at his place during the winter but Hasan from Hasans Turtle Beach lives there full time and I'm sure he'd let you stay in his grounds. Tell him Hugh sent you.

Camping in Karpaz is fine. It is legal. Making an open fire is forbidden between May 1st and October 1st due to high risk of brush fires. Dont worry about your license plate, there are Greek Cypriots living in Dipkarpaz and Maronites in Kormacit village with their cars from the south. If you really want to make sure, stop by the police station at the enterance of Dipkarpaz village and tell them that you are going to camp. I got inquired by the local police once when I was doing camping and hiking, and their concern was to see if I was digging for antiquities.

The area from Dipkarpaz village to the Cape Andreas is permanently closed to hunting as it is an SPA. In other areas, it is forbidden to hunt along the coastline. However, there may be hunters hunting within forbidden areas.

Hello everybody,

thank you for all the tips and posts. As kantara wrote already, I've been there already and back to Girne since yesterday. It was on one hand very nice and on the other hand very disappointing. The karpaz area is very very nice... but also very dirty :( I thought at least this nature reserve will be clean... but it isn't :( Which is really sad.

I was at Hasan's place. He is there all the year and the price was ok. This time of the year is almost nobody there of course... was nice quite ;)

@dippersgirl

Ohhh... pity... I saw your message just right now :( Else I would have called you for sure. Next time maybe Sounds good.
