Good point, sounds reasonable and a good idea. ! Possibly because not many countries recognize the TRNC.

so what if Azerbaijan,Gambia and any other country formally recognize the TRNC, there are 193 UN members, even if 178 agreed to recognise TRNC, Until such time as 9 out of 15 permanent members of the UN security council recognize TRNC, it will still not be recognised as a state. There are 5 permanent member countires. USA - China - Russia - UK - France and 10 oppointed members Bosnia and Herzegovina (2011) Germany (2012) Portugal (2012) Brazil (2011) India (2012) South Africa (2012) Colombia (2012) Lebanon (2011) Gabon (2011) and Nigeria (2011). each serving a 2 year session. Even though Turkey recognizes TRNC, 9 out of 15 of the current countries must do the same. out of the 9 memebers 3 must be a permanent member.like USA - Russia and UK. So I wouldn't hold my breath of being recognised soon. Azerbaijan at one point allowed direct flight from Ercan to Baku, and then gave into pressure from the Gc Goverment.

Also currently it is not in Turkeys interest to put pressure on TRNC being recognised by the UN. Last time Turkey even brought up the subject in the council was 2007 when they were on the permanent member of 2 years. With so many mandates on Turkey by the UN since 1974 over the Cyprus issue, their hands are tied. Also many of you might not be aware that one of the biggest sanctions imposed on us is from Turkey itself. Some of you might be aware that up until 1997, TRNC was able to export most of its produce to the UK and other E.U states, but then thanks to Turkey when they signed the Customs treaty with the E.U, we were no longer able to export to E.U, So now we end up on having to pay double duty tax on all the goods coming into TRNC as a result of the agreement. This gives the companies in Turkey a better deal to export to us at a higher price then to other countries within the E.Union.

TRNC a Turkish Colony, I don't think so!! (unless that remark was tongue in cheek?) As Msg..11 says, in many respects Turkey has done the KKTC no favours at all with regard to us exporting goods to E.U. and I can't see them changing their minds, it's not in their interests to do so.
