Poignant as it is, it does just tell one side of the story. Remember the first victim of war is truth. It is only by understanding both sides sufferring, that any hope of reconcilliation can be achieved. Any hope for a peaceful solution. must now rest with the younger generation. wynyardman

this documentary Homeland was shown at GAU a cuple of years back when Hakkan the wrter, producer, director came over. I have met him on several occasions and spoke to him when i was in oz 4 years ago. I thought it was possible to get copies here, but I have ost track of where. Hakkan also wrote a book abou the 60 years of turkish Cypriots in Australia. this documentary is admittedly from the TC point of view, and there are those who criticise him for not putting both sides, but that was not his aim. I think it is well worth viewing and I hope that all who watch it can realise how important it is for both sides to move forwards into a better and peacefull future. But judging from someeof the comments on the web page, that seems unlikely. But I guess we all need to believe in miracles.

National Geographic have also done a documentary 'Islands - Cyprus' which I watched last night and it was very much from the Greek perspective... i.e. the word 'refugee' is only used in reference to Greek speaking Cypriots albeit the mass forcible movement of Turkish Cypriots is mentioned it does not label them as refugees... a very subtle nuance maybe but to viewers not acquainted with the subject matter (and yes there are many in the outside world) it gives the impression that the Turkish 'Invasion' as they put it, was only in response to the coup attempt and very little weight is given to the inter-communal strife that preceded it.
