After my mum in her wisdom decided to start feeding up a 'skin and bone' puddy which looked like it had just had babies, I've since found 3 kittens hiding out under the car and every time the hungry mum comes to our back door looking for food she's joined by every other Tom Dick and Harry who lives nearby when they hear her meaowing. And there are some mean looking fat suckers amongst them too.

Anyone got any ideas what to do to get rid of the unwanted ones. I don't mind feeding one to keep around the house and keep the mice away but I refuse to have them all.

I've suggesting catching the babies at least and taking them for a long drive but hubby won't have any of it - too cruel to separate them from their mum at that age and all that ...

squirt them with water.... the ones you don't want around that is... and they might just get the message.. Will soak them but won't hurt them of course, before anyone jumps on the 'Cruel' bandwagon.

A dog might not work, one of our neighbours dogs spends a lot of time "visiting" us and it does not bother the five cats. Only the newest kitten spits at her but that is getting milder each time they come across each other.

Ihad a similar problem about 2 years ago, and ended up with mum, dad and 4 kittens, but got KAR to come and "do" them all. As soon as mum can leave the kittens get her and the father done first, then no more babies, and when the babies are old enough KAR will take them away and get them done. It is very hard to get rid of them once you start to feed them. I won't have these in the house, as I have my own, and I must be truthful and wish I had never started to feed the skeleton mum that turned up, but what can you do, I couldn't let her starve. I wish you luck. Please don't take them for a drive and dump them, it would be kinder to have them put to sleep.

Well with all that rain pouring this morning we just couldn't leave those poor kittens out in the cold without food, could we!!!

Only mum has been around this evening (don't know what happened to the kittens), hopefully the ugly fluffy ginger and fat black ones have got the message after my 'psst'ing' and chasing them around the gardens all morning!

I'll try the trick with the water if they come back.
