Hi Mike How about playing Sam Cook's (original) version of 'Only 16' to show how insipid Craig Douglas' was.

Hi Russell, yes I have to agree with you, Sam Cooke's version of that song was the best, but I wouldn't call Craig Douglas an insipid singer. If you were to hear some of his other songs, even the cover one's he did, hey he wasn't that bad, he had quite a good voice. I will play the Sam Cooke version for you in a few weeks time. Have you got any more songs you would like to hear. If you have, please post them to me. MIKE

My Ship is Coming in (original by Jimmy Radcliffe) or Fever (original by Little Willie John) would be great, thanks!

Russell, will play the 'Little Willie John' number for you on a future show but cannot play the Jimmy Radcliffe track. The only track that it was possible to downlown (My Ship Is Coming In) was a very bad (corrupt) copy and not good enough for the show. Sorry about that. MIKE

Excellent ...I've just finished reading the biography of LWJ (called, naturally, 'Fever') so I'll enjoy hearing the track. Incidentally, I believe it's his sister, Mabel, who is the female voice on Ray Charles' 'Hit the Road Jack' ...that'd be a further request at some point in the future. Thanks!

Russell, yes I'll play that track for you on a future show. Mabel was with the Raelettes for a few years after she left the Motown stable in 1962 and sang on quite a few of Ray Charles' songs. Did you know that when the Supremes first started at Motown records, thay actually were the backing singer on some of mabel's songs before Barry Gordy dissolved her contract because of poor sales. Believe it or not, she still records the odd song at the age of 80 MIKE

Yes, I was talking to her over in Porretta, Italy a couple-of-years ago ...she was in fine voice and very sprightly -just gone 81!

Hi Mike Can I request "Jackie" please, either by Jacques Brel or Scott (Walker). Also, I heard "A Family Affair" by Sly and the Family Stone recently and had forgotten how much I liked it. Any chance of playing it some time in the future please? With many thanks and warm regards. Jean x

Hi Jeannie, I've been waiting for a few weeks for you to send me some more requests. You disappoint me though - I expected a lot more. Will play you the Scott Walker version of the 'Jackie' song and also the 'Family Affair' song in the near future. Hi Steve, looking forward to seeing you at the Mountain View's 'music & buffet' on QWednesday as well. MIKE
