The owner of this site Izet is involved in cross border car hire - always check if you have full cover on the other side (TRNC) or you have to recover your car to the south in case of a problem.

You can hire from any company in the south and drive across the border, you will be required to buy a 2nd insurance at the border before being allowed to enter TRNC, but please note, we have debated about this before, if you are not staying in a hotel or friends, and you have your own property in TRNC, Customs can impound the car. Only People with no connections in Cyprus are allowed to use this service.

we have hired cars from several companies in the republic and driven to the North over a number of years, but the insurance you buy at the border is only 3rd party and very limited, not really sure what would happen if you had a bump in the North and had to get the car back to the hire company, regardless of who is to blame. I always ask the hire company if it is okay to drive to the North and the usual reply, it is your own responsibility, some will not allow it. I have heard of a company hiring in both the Republic and the North so there should be no problem, famous last words!!! I now tend to get a taxi to the North and hire from one of many reasonable companies.

Msg 6: the best solution is that to get a taxi or walk across and hire in the North, There are alot of Hire companies near Ledra St.

Msg 7 I thought that's what I said, but to walk through the Ledra crossing with suitcases and bags not a good idea, where ever you cross there are reasonable car hire companies and generally they are cheaper than in the Republic, I gave my response based on personal experience.

i found a company connected to monarch airlines website giving me a small manual drive car for 28 days all inclusive at £199- but when i read the small print detail it clearly stated not allowed to be driven to the northern region of Cyprus. A shame as the there appears to be superb deals in the RoC. Even 3 weeks in the TRNC for that price would be great!
