Relatives are coming to stay with us at Xmas, we want to take them to see traditional TC entertainment, with Belly Dancing preferable. Probably we have left it too late to book for Xmas dinners though, any suggestions please? (We are in the Alsancak area)

Antis Taverna on the shore at Karaoglanoglu/Ayios Yeoryios. Usually Friday nights from 8pm. Packed out with Cypriots rather than Brits/Turks so you'll have an authentic time.

Thanks for the advice. We will definitely try 1 of these. We have found a place for Xmas dinner as well - the Mountain View Hotel - though strangely not because of the recent post on this board about it. We dropped in at a few places on the Girne/Lapta road to ask about Xmas dinners, and one of these was the Princes Hotel in Karalangaloo. The owner there was a TC of the "nothing is too much trouble" type that we find so endearing, he didn't have anything for Xmas, but he bundled us into his car and whisked us a couple of miles to the Mountain View Hotel. Ok, so we found that the Mountain View was managed by his Grandson, but he still didn't have to put himself out as much as he did.

On a completely un-related topic, a couple of weeks b4 we asked for directions from a shop in Girne, and were personally escorted on a walk taking about 3/4 hour to reach our enquired after destination.

And Brits are by all accounts scampering back to the UK because conditions are getting worse here.

Pleeeese!! We have only been out here for 1 month, when we left Uk conditions could not be any worse. The lunatics are running the asylum, and the criminals have more rights than the victims. Human relationships are far more important than any of the reasons I have heard bandied about as the cause of the exodus. The people leaving cannot see how good they have it.

I digress. Anyway after being shown around the Hotel we booked in with Oz for Xmas dinner.

If you are here NY Eve go to Girne. There is usually entertainment and fireworks around midnight off the top of belidyse.

It is like NY Eve used to be in Uk many years ago with people having a few beers and enjoying them selves. Usually a good split as well with mainly Cypriots with loads of kids and a good number of Brits.

Please come along and enjoy the atmosphere and forget the normal "ex-pat" scene.
