Could someone who is technically knowledgeable in this subject please explain to me (I work in IT and know what a VPN is) why people use VPN based TV in NC. Is it because certain types of connection or domains are blocked?

If you try to access many online streaming video services, such as the BBC IPlayer, you'll be blocked from watching them based on your geographical location. This is done by the video service using your IP address to work out where in the world you are. Using a UK based VPN fools the video service into thinking that you're in the UK and therefore allows you to view the video. There are a many such commercial VPN's available and are easily found using Google. You should pay around £5.00 per month for a subscription with no limit on data transfer.

Multimax has devised a workaround to this problem and with a multimax connection, you can access bbc and itv without a VPN connection. All you need to do is run iplayer or itv player or go to their website and it just works. We also offer a manual VPN system for our customers free of charge, so you will never have to pay for a seperate VPN connection. Kemal
