would you believe it? had loads of really good advice on how to get permission to go to the airport. So off I went to the office in town clutching relevant documents. First 'down' was the fact that my husband cannot come to the airport to say 'farewell' to his own son (I am step-mum). O.K. I accept that, but ..... nice lady took the documents, got David to sign (not me!) and then said 'We will telephone you to let you know if you have permission - probably on Friday." Nice one! That means that somehow on Friday I have to get to the offices before they close and I am in lefkosia all day. Ah well, maybe I will have a miracle , but one can quite understand why more and more people are leaving here. Sad all round really.

That is a bit of a childish tantrum because you have to stay in for a day. Sad all round really.

It's not a childish tantrum at all, if you had read previous posts on this subject you would see that the lady in question has to take her son to the airport on census day, the flight I assume was booked well before the census date was agreed. Why are people always so eager to pass snide remarks when they don't know the facts!

Giles read Marions post again! She has to do an airport run and is just posting her experience today trying to get permission! I don't think she is throwing a tantrum! Fingers crossed for you Marion!

We don't all run to an internet bulletin board to bemoan our problems! Most get on with their lives without having to share its difficulties with strangers. I blame FaceBook.

Well you just have had a moan by blaming facebook. Giles, Marion was merely warning 44 users about the pitfalls of having to take someone to the airport on cencus day. Thank you Marion and I hope it goes well for you. Hopefully you wont have any more moronic comments posted.

Thank you friends for your understanding. You are correct, I am NOT moaning, merely pointing out an extra difficult for the many who need permission on Sunday. One young man I know who was there is about to go on a belated honeymoon - departing on Sunday. Other friends work for BRT and have to get to the studios etc, etc, and NONE of them knew that you have to go back to collect your permission, presumably on Friday, and then if not granted, one is up a Cypriot gum tree as all offices are thereafter closed. so, if anyone else has to go, make sure that you have a gap in your calendar to collect the permission, and hopefully no one will be turned down. And it was promised that this archaic system of staying at home would never happen again. Now they are saying it will not happen next time. and thanks again to those who can understand my mind. I am NOT a moaner! REALLY!

Can someone remind me why we have to stay indoors? I was told that it was because the government could then count all the illegal immigrants who are sure not be be hiding in cupboards on census day.

The public sector here really has no concept of logistics involved with achieving even the most simplistic of their objectives.. I know it sounds 'Colonial', but they really cannot run a bath - basically not fit for purpose. My sons class of 12 year olds back in UK could do much better A logistical pigs ear - then they change the date to really inconvenience people... Laurence

My wife and I have to go tomorrow with photo copies of our details, flight details, car and driver details. Assuming they do not change the rules before Sunday we should get away. For anyone else who need permission to travel that day they have to go to the Karmakans office. This is the building beside the hospital and in front of the tax offices. In the front door and up the stairs on the right at the top there is an office on your left. Young man in there who speaks very good English and a very pleasent lady lady, both are very helpful.

What a terrible country to live in, this TRNC! It must have been a lot better where you came from. Next question: why don't you go back to where you came from..?!

OK, re message 1. I see no reason why anyone cannot say Good Bye from their home. Last year my Hubby took my daughter, son in law and grand kiddies to Larnaca at 8pm whilst I stayed at home. The car did not have enough seats for all of us. I said my good byes before they left. Lets get real, not a great deal of concern really. The census dates have been changed a few times, r with question marks over the dates, which is a nuisance. You can never be sure with the TRNC what they do !!!! As a wedding planner, I have recently returned from the UK spending a large of money on promoting the TRNC as a weddings venue. I have a couple coming out on Friday night for 2 days only to look at venues, etc. (to plan their 2012 wedding). This means that I can only meet them on Saturday to show them ALL the possibilities, almost impossible, but I will try my best! I hope they will not change their minds whilst here!!

Nice idea Carol, but unfortunately alan would LIKE to take his son to the airport. After all it is HIS son and at his age of 82, he is never sure when he might see him again. And also unfortunately as he cannot drive, it means I must be the driver. so you see, he would LOVE to take his son to the airport to say 'farewell' but cannot by Government decree. It is not so bad when one is younger - but there is always this sense of ' is this the final farewell!' and it just seems unfair that love has to be limited by politics.
