When the water is turned on inside the house I can hear bang bang bang bang bang very fast bang bang bang on the roof Im sure. I happened to go outside and can see some plastic water pipes shaking along with the pump which is not in use by the way. What on earth is going on?

We get this sometimes when you turn on the tap when it is positioned towards hot. I think it is air in the pipes or something to do with pressure. Anyway, I have found if you turn it on in the cold position then move it slowly towards hot it stops. I'm sure a man will be along shortly to explain all

Hi periwinkle, We sometimes get this, when the pump is on, I think it's air trapped in the system. When it starts to splutter, I put a cloth or something that needs washed round the tap, let it run hot/cold until air has cleared, the cloth etc stops you having an unwanted shower in the kitchen Don't know how to cure this problem though. Good luck. Navek

Hi periwinkle, I will try to explain this in an easy fashion, turn the tap on then cover the flow so in affect the water is going back up the tap, leave it run for at least ten minutes, this will clear the air block. This has worked for me in many a house. Vicki

If you run the tap without using the pump air builds up in the system.

Hi Piri, I had the same problem this summer it only rattled when the mains water was on, you need to get on to the roof where the pipe goes into the tank and fix it to a wall bracket
