Interesting but not "new" as I am sure that Apple, Blackberry, Nokia, Microsoft, Mozilla etc etc can all do the same if they choose and may well do so.

GCHQ and their counterparts world wide can and will be doing a data logging task worldwide of almost any communication (its been going on for over half a century) - if we want to become paranoid about it best to talk by sign language in a dark room under about 15 meters of concrete etc etc

▶ Right, Tom. But the Apple Location Manager offers the option to switch tracking your movements OFF for any app you download. That's the difference.

My smart phone and tablet both Android, i have the option of turning these off.

I have played with both Apple and Android, and for the same reason i wouldn't buy a kindle is, i don't like being locked in.

It's not about running system its about lock in. All these items are expensive and the customer should be able to decide what they do and don't want. Sadly they can't all agree as the world would be a better place if they did! Maybe windows will be the future?

Just because you may not paranoid (yet) , msg 2, it does not mean that "they" are not after you.

FB, google, microsoft.. name them... some of them with illegal actions and ongoing fights with eg european institutions, ARE after you and we all should think twice whether it is really neccessary to carry devices with us which are permanent connected to the internet.

@ msg 6, goonerhus: But that's not the point. The point in msg 1 is that buyers don't know what's built deep inside the Operating System of Androids.

Here we go again - the great worry over all "your" secrets being found out!

Time to go to Tempo and buy some more kitchen foil to wrap around the head people - there are mind readers out there who will steal your thoughts!!!!

Get behind it - if someone in power wants to know about you then - A. You must know things that others consider are worth knowing about to start with. - B. You must already know that you must have things worth knowing about. Therefore, it stands to reason that - C. You have already taken steps to ensure that what you know can never be found out.

With over 40 years of communications background there is one thing I know for sure - nothing in the world is secure enough to withstand technology and what is guaranteed today is tomorrows failure.

Just get on with life and enjoy all the toy's - life is far to short to worry.

P.S. I have a secret - want to know what it is???

Sorry waddo, thats not the point (exept that life is to short of course). its not about secrects or knowledge, its about control, power and making money with it.
