As well as rasing much needed funds we are also trying to get the support of the local people and have as much fun as possible! | all funds are good for any club, but it seems strange to me that thay pay the players to play football here.thay are only like the village teams in the uk and thay have to pay the club to have a game. |

petlovers, do not underestimate the quality of football here, just because you see poor pitches and low attendences. from experience, i can tell you that the clubs here are training 4 times a week. the foreign players(4 for teams in the first division, 3 in the second) also do 3 morning sessions on top of the four in the evening. so please do not try to compare the 1st and 2nd division teams in North Cyprus to a Hackney Marshes in the UK. Do some research before realising why the players here are paid.

i do not need to do research,i have seen 2 games a week since coming here 4 years ago.i have been a manager and coach in the uk and i can see the quality of football here is about the same as a good village team in the uk.

with a name like petlover, u sure sound like a guy who knows his footballing stuff. i reckon a gonyeli or kaymakli would muller any ''village'' team in england. i don't think you take in to account how difficult it is to play ''pretty'' football on the pitches here, considering the funds provided from the government for facilities are so slow. but seeing as you are clearly a man with contacts, maybe you should organise a game pre season against a so called hackney marshes? however, i'm guessing that would be FAR too much effort.

i would agree the top teams here are properly better than a good village team but the 2nd div is about the same standard as a village team.why you say the pitches here are poor i dont know thay are as good as many semi pro pitches in the uk.

Hi Petlover and Ozwozz 86, Both of you appear to be more than qualified to discuss the standard of football in the TRNC so why not offer your support which was the main purpose of the thread? You are obviousley very keen on football so would appreciate your thoughts on how to raise money!!

Magicart, i play for Ozankoy football club. We have not received any pay for the last 4 and a half months. Its getting beyond a joke. Petlover, go and watch Dogan play. They are in the second division. Believe me, if sabri and raif(the two twins) were playing in a village team in England, they would definitely have been snapped up by a better team.

When i was in Senol`s restaurant in Esentepe in Sept some coloured guys came in and it turned out they were class players the Esentepe club had brought in from S.Africa i think it was. The barman then told me the club had paid 10grand to bring them in on a contract! I was amazed that such a small club could do this and thought that he was just bigging his club up a bit like the Blades supporters do.

this is just my point i was reporting, how do these clubs pay this sort of money to bring these players in.would it not be best to just play cypriot players.or does the government pay big somes of money to these clubs.

Yeah, got me squintin`, 10 large is a lot of money especially on a village football team but it supplys a lot of entertainment for the locals and i dont think theyve got much else to do up there.

Yeah i gathered that by the guys conviction and dedication to the team. It was refreshing to see such compassion over what was to us a minor issue, similar to their patriotism i guess it unites the locals, brilliant!!

i went to see the cetinkaya 'v' luton town game. (which didn't happen) during the warm up cetinkaya looked like they were going to slaughter luton town, who looked like a beer drinking sunday pub team. lucky for luton it didn't go ahead! i do agree with puppy lover that some village teams play poor football. (i am also a qualified coach.) my comparison would be they play like 8 year olds. the supporters often fight , not acceptable behaviour.
