I wish you all the good luck in the world Shona - go for it and follow your 'gut instinct' in everything. Use every resource, read as many forums as you can put up with, talk to everyone (except on a flight into Larnaca if you are choosing to travel through the south) take your time and enjoy! Do check out the east of Kyrenia as well as the west - esentepe and bacheli are spectacular!

Do you have an mp3 player? My mum hates flying too, and since I bought her a little iPod shuffle, (the grandkids think she's terribly cool for owning one) she simply plugs herself in and listens to The Carpenters and other soothing music (!) during the flight to North Cyprus. She stays relaxed, and she just recharges the iPod from my computer's USB hub for the trip back to the UK. Try it - it might just work for you too!

Hello again, you mentioned you have 2 dogs. How's it working getting them out to TRNC?

Hi Boofey,

The dogs are booked in at the vet next week for there rabbies jab and microchip. They have to have a blood sample taken and then sent off to check they have not got rabbies when this is returned I have to fax the results to the chief vet in TRNC (details and fax contact number found on this website). 48 hours before departure they are checked over by the vet and given a fit to travel certificate. I am waiting for a quote from a pet carrier company to fly them out (with large brandy in hand as I have heard it could be 2-3 thousand pounds) Clear as mud!!??

Shona, when the dogs get to the other end is it up to you to feed them daily and is the quarantine period around 4 weeks?

You must love those dogs very much so good luck and enjoy the brandy!!

Hi Boofy,

Just had a quote for £1,499 for both dogs from a company called Animal Airlines so brandy not needed! You need an Export Health Certificate from DEFRA my office is in Chelmsford. I think for Suffolk its Bury St Edmunds if you go to the DEFRA website it lists all contacts. Dont be confused that you just need a pet passport, being non EU TRNC requires the Export Health Certificate too. Yes dogs in quarantine for approx 21 days. I have to go daily to walk/feed them but at 78p per day I cant complain.

I will keep you posted

Buy 2 cages for the dogs £99 each max. then buy the tickets from cta london cargo dept £7 per kilo , this is what we did turn up at the airport and on they go,

The pet carriers are a rip off I asked one of them what we were gettting for the £1250 they quoted reply we ship your dog for you from our kennals to ercam When I pressed them on why the ticket from cta was £320 and their price £1250 what was I getting for the £930 they said look if you dont want to use us goaway and hung up !!

Good luck

Thanks Littlenige,

I have just spoken to the pet carriers and asked the very same question! They didnt hang up tho!!

Is it an easy process at the airport? Ive got visions of the dogs going down the suitcase shuttle!! Where do I take them at the airport (Stansted)?

Thanks for advice

you take them to the checkin they tell you to take them through into departures then before boarding you take them to a desk at the end of checkin.

It really is very easy.

At ercan yes they really do come down with the luggage !!

the customs men ring the kennals they come take the dogs to lefkosia we followed exersised him then visited twice a day whilst he was in there .

Should have been in 28 we managed to rescue him after 8.

Hi Shona,

Would love to hear how you get on with your house hunting trip, I have been considering Northern Cyprus myself & have only just started my research. Any info would be gratefully received, it's very difficult to decide which area to look at. I too have a dog to think about. Sue.

Hi Shona

I agree with littlenige we brought 2 dogs 1 cat and all came round the carousel with the suitcases, no harm done we however took 19 days to spring them from the Stalag!!! kennels.

Good Luck,
