Is it the traditional celebration of the birth of Chris and/ or the opportunity to gather together with family and friends , or is Christmas a time of sadness for you ? perhaps remembering the passing of loved ones or the pain of being alone ? Many love the Christmas celebrations but sadly, for some, it is a time of sadness and regret . I would urge those who can, to reach out to those who need a helping hand and by doing so, to really participate in the spirit of Christmas !

Chris was getting all excited!

We have a lovely Christmas - away from nearly all the peer-pressure of an acquisitive Christmas as was in the UK. I love preparing Christmas luncheon so we get exactly what we want to eat without going bananas. We play what games we want, listen to what we want, watch what we want, laugh at what we want, cry at what we want. We don't have time for listening to HM QEII telling what an annus horribilis she's had as we know plenty of people who have had a worse time and we think of them.

Our hearts, thoughts and good wishes go out to folk whose lives have been shattered by illness and tragic events. Keep the faith!

In the Uk ,It means overindulgence in practically everything, and an " obsequious "level of well wishing amongst those who during the rest of the year barely speak to each other..For me it is a time of reflection, and the realisation that for a huge number of people in the world it is just another day of suffering..

I wish you All a happy Yuletide...

How true ! I think many of us get a kind of fever around Christmas time and waste money buying things we don't really need and sometimes will never use . I see people in the supermarkets buying goods like they were stocking up for a war ! It's an easy trap to fall into !

Christmas makes me sad, i do miss my family and friends in other places.

Then we work so hard at this time of year i don't have time to think let alone feel sad.

Always busy and having lots of fun with the dogs.

"Christmas" always reminds me how around the year 500 the Catholics hijacked this pagan celebration of the shortest day - to turn it in "the birth of Christ" - what a joke. Ho ho ho, sorry, I mean Ha ha ha...

DID YOU KNOW?

Christmas has been celebrated on December 25 since 336 A.D. The tradition started as a Christian holiday honouring the birth of Jesus and has evolved into an international holiday that embodies family togetherness and good cheer.

Christmas gets its name from "Christ," meaning "Messiah" or "Anointed One," and "Mass," meaning "religious festival." Jesus, born in Bethlehem to the Virgin Mary, was given the title of "Christ" because he was regarded as a great king who would protect people from all wrong and evil.

Forget to mention "... around the year 500 in England, where the Northern European tribes from (now) the Lowlands, Northern Germany, Denmark and southern Norway/Sweden (Angles, Saxons, Jutes, Frisians and many other minor tribes) ruled after invading the island" etc.

Christmas? If you have the time read a good history book about England and Catholicism at "Christmas".

@ msg 11, dekski: (...) Christmas has been celebrated on December 25 since 336 A.D. (...)

▶ But not in England. In 336 the Britons still had their own often secret celebrations of a handful of local and wider known gods, though cruelly suppressed by the Romans.

We want to spend the time with friends and family and as they can't come all to us here, we have to go to England to see all. David is also pining for a good English pint of beer and that's his chance to enjoy it.

We are not into commercial christmas, but give each other small fun stocking type and home made presents. We ask everybody what they want to eat and then we share out the cooking of it all. We love to play games and go for good walks visiting friends.

Humbug!

I celebrate every day, don't have to wait until Christmas to let people know that I love them or dish out presents. I gift when I feel like it and actually mean it!
