I live in a ground floor apartment and wondered if anyone has any ideas on heating other than, oil filled radiators, parrafin heaters or aircons on hot. Has anyone got anything thats new on the market thats working for you? Have seen a wood burning stove that looked ok, but I'm open to any ideas or suggestions(clean!) on how to keep warm. Many thanks in anticipation..

Pipie is right, air con heat pumps are the most cost effective. http://www.comfort.uk.com/faq.htm The other thing I like about a/c is that because it is powered by electricity, it: Gets paid for after it's been used, unlike other fuels. It requires no storage, unlike other fuels. It is delivered simply and easily, unlike other fuels. It is measured (or should be) properly, unlike fuels like logs. It is of a known quality and standard, unlike logs.

I've had a log burner here in UK for three years. Without doubt it is the best!!! Cheap logs, nice and cosy - although sometimes if I put to many logs on it can be a bit too hot!!!!

I agree with message 7 - the Halogen heaters are great and are so cheap to run, plus gives out a wonderful glow and very safe. You can put them onto 2 bars, 3 or 4. The butcher in Karsiyaka Square (Mehmet) still is selling them. You can leave them on all day for next to nothing really takes the chill out of the rooms. Love the a/c but very expensive.

msg 9, Nevertheless, a halogen heater only has a Cop of 1 compared to an a/c unit with a Cop of 3, i.e with the halogen heater you put a kW of electricity in and you get a kW of heat out. With an a/c unit you put a kW in and 3kW out. I suspect you may be running the a/c very hard compared to just taking the chill off with your halogen heater.

Actually "INSULATION" wins hands down, the rest are simply ways of throwing money down the drain......
