We had this problem with our kindle, realised that we had not set up an account with credit card details, as soon as we had done that the Kindle bookstore opened. Hope this helps.

I used my new kindle last month in Girne, no problem downloading books and using all the 3g applications. I primarily used it where i could get free wifi, i am registered with Amazon.co.uk . I set up the Kindle in TRNC though.

Can't read a kindle in the dark, however, Mr Pound have these nifty little lights that work a treat!!! Can you read a book in the dark?? Love the Kindle. Had an Amazon account already and worked okay to begin with, then said I had to go to Amazon .com to shop for Kindle books, but has since settled and downloading great from the Amazon.co.uk site. Registered the Kindle to the UK though mostly in N Cyprus.

| bought one last week and arrived today, have been using an ebook which suited me fine, but wife wanted to try the Kindle, and must say it's light and very easy to use but as Ralph96 said no good in the dark, but this one has the experimental web Brouser which when fully operational should be very good, I downloaded a 1000 books last week and converted the format to MOBI with a free programme called calibre - E-book management, very good software to covert any format of ebooks to Kindle MOBI, wife likes Nora Roberts and J D Rob, same authers, so downloades all their books, just go to Torrentz.com download and put them into the documents folder of your Kindle. | Amazon do a nice case for the kindle with a built-in light which is powered by the kindle battery. Reading in the dark is great and it also keeps your kindle dust & fingerprint free! Maggie |

Why the fascination with reading in the dark? I'm sure you never used to say 'See this book... Oh you can't, well it's great but guess what... I can't read it in the dark!' The kindle replaces the book not the sun or the lighting system in your house... turning a freaking light on! FCS.

Groucho we have power cuts in Cyprus. So whilst waiting for the power to come back on my wife can read in the dark. I asked the question because I dont have a Kindle and was wondering. Seeing as you like to stick your nose in every post on this forum for your information I will not be buying one for that reason.

Ralph96 like you I wasn't all that keen on a Kindle for the same reason that you stated, but must admit there is no weight at all, and very clear screen, cover cost me $29US, but I still like my Android ebook reader with touch screen 10inch and 2 pages on the screen at a time, cost 200 lira and has all the functions of a notebook. Amazon have come out with a new touch screen version, but I couldn't get it sent to Australia as it wasn't on the international postage, why don't they just make a Kindle with a backlight problem solved, Robert
