Ginty, it has nothing to do with Turkcell (just another provider) - it's all about your settings and preferences. Are you familiar with these basics?

yes I have tried altering the setting and contacted my provider talktalk but they said windows ce was not compatible with their router I bought the netbook to use in trnc so I was just wondering if I would have the same problem there

WinCE does not 'support' the dongle, which means that it does not have the inbuilt software (programs/drivers) for it, so it will probably not even recognise the dongle when it is plugged in.

If the 'on board' drivers that come with dongle do not run automatically when you plug it in, and install themselves, it will have to be done manually, and you will have to set them up. Then the settings will need to be adjusted according to your system.

This is not a straight forward task, unless you know what to look for. So if you have a knowledgable friend who can help, ask them. Occasionally one of the tech staff is in the Turkell offices near the main Girne roundabout, so that might be worth a visit with your netbook & dongle.

As you are posting on here, you have internet access, so try visiting the micrcosoft site they may have a remedy (a 'patch' or driver software) which you can download.

Best of luck

Assuming the netbook has a wireless capability you could get a wireless 3g router plug your dongle into that (complete the set up ) and then hopefully you can connect wirelessly to the router which will connect to turkcell via the dongle. I have a wireless 3g router I use like this although my netbook uses XP. It works reasonably well although the router does have to be rebooted from time to time when the connection plays up

Hi Ginty

It looks like you have other options (msg 8/9) - consider both.

In answer to your question (without seeing the netbook) i would say that yes you can install XP on it, most netbooks have enough capacity, unless its an early netbook. This should solve the problem. I would not recommend using the XP media version though, it takes up space and resources unnecessarily.

Best of luck

if the cpu of netbook is intel or amd, you will have no problem installing windows xp.

However, there are some netbooks out there with ARM CPU's (the same family that iphone and some other smartphones using) that only support Windows CE, some linux varieties and/or android, Windows XP or 7 is not supported for these cpus.

If you must use 3G with Windows CE, you will need a 3G capable router and share the 3G in the house using an ethernet or wireless system, if your netbook has one of these options.

At this point though, your 3G becomes much less 'mobile' so you might as well consider a wireless internet solution, like some people suggested. We at multimax is selling a 2Mbit unlimited connection for only 60TL per month.
