John Terry has been bailed to Magistrates' Court in the new year charged with a racist offence arising out of alleged remarks to Anton Ferdinand.

Minor correction:-

Terry not bailed, CPS proceeding by way of summons laid before magistrates. In any event, still has to appear at West London Mags. Court on 1st. February.

At least his 'previous' (beating up taxi driver*, 'friendship' with team-mates pnuematic girlfriend etc.) won't influence decision

* apologies to JT if that was actually some other cockney

Actually, I'd give him life for wearing his socks rolled up OVER his knees!

Dear NN. Hmmnn! Would you like to be more specific and give examples for your opinion? Then please give solutions to the issues you mention so that we can be intelligently informed and take action to alleviate them.

As for the mess the UK is in I blame the weather, my sisters, Charlton Athletic FC, the Elephant and Castle roundabout, no more early closing for shops on Thursday afternoon and the Dandy and Beano.

...actually, now you mention the Beano it wasn't long after Eric Clapton was famously pictured reading it that he developed that hideous perm.

@ msg 5, johnerebus: As for the mess the UK is in... You forgot to blame the Dutch! You know, it all started when some 1500 years ago Frisians from the Lowlands and other tribes conquered what is now England. Then the "Great Fire of London": the Dutch were blamed (and the Catholics, although a Committee from Parliament concluded it was an act of God). And worst of all: when William of Orange (King "Billy") imported his beloved jenever from Holland, which later was called gin in England.

So it's obvious: the Dutch are to blame for the mess the UK is in...

Any and all professional footballers should have a salary cap of a maximum of £1,000 per week. You should not be allowed to play for a team unless you were born within 75 miles of their stadium. ANY behaviour of the type this guy is accused of should, if proven, result in mandatory dismissal and a lifetime ban from the business (not game, it hasn't been that for decades).

These overpaid, under educated, self obsessed neanderthals are a disgrace to their country (wherever that may be!) and are perfect examples of what a role model shouldn't be!

What on earth happened to football, where the Glasgow players came from Glasgow and the Newcastle players came from Newcastle? These days it's just big business conning the 'supporters' out of ever larger amounts of cash.

Why does everyone keep on about the mess the UK is in? It's in a better state than most of the european countries - despite the manufacturing base disappearing.

Msg 9

You're going back a long way there! (Willie Goves became the first player to be transferred for over £100 in 1893 when he moved to Aston Villa. He had previously played for Hibs, Celtic and West Brom.)
