Hi wazzzap,

Not many of them about, looking for one myself, but prefer new.

Any idea who's got the best deals?

Will travel to Lefcosia.

Stewart,

I would check with Customs first - I think that you may have to pay a lot of duty.

How do customs know wether I am driving through to the south or not with the TV?...what if I had property in the south or simply delivering it to someone in the south?

Well you'd take it direct then...

When I'm smuggling drugs I try this excuse with UK customs... "But I'm going on the America sir...." they are not impressed...

Dear Groucho, I believe you only pay tax on new products, not second hand..do you know if this is correct ie if I use it once, it is second hand?...whats your thoughts?

Dear Stewart

I am not too sure if it is wise trust Dear Groucho. Groucho saying that in this instance Groucho is a self confessed drug runner.

I am not sure but as a rule if you bring something in as second hand it would not be wise to use original packing (which was designed to protect the goods) and looking used is probably what the customs man wants to see. It might still take you over local import duties etc. - ask others advice on this as I do not know.

I think Groucho would agree that once used may not be seen as more than testing a new item by the average customs inspector (you should test anything before bringing it these distances and also make sure it is compatible to local standards etc.)

Tom

It's only Paracetamol tablets.... ;¬)

The trouble with trying to claim it's secondhand is... they are very unlikely to accept this statement unless you can produce a receipt that shows the TV is beyond a year old.... If they spot it, you'll have to pay. To give you any advice otherwise would be foolhardy on my part and dangerous for you...

It doesn't matter whether it's new or second hand you are still importing an electrical piece of equipment as far as customs are concerned. I know of several cases where although you are allowed one shipment duty free when you move here customs have still made charges on electrical equipment.

Also think of the case with cars, you still have to pay charges if it's second hand.

Hi

Both my sons went over the the South (ergoline) I think its called, when you go into Ergoline TV Shop you say you are bringing it over to the North, they take all the wrapping off including cardboard piece off the plug, they give you a receipt to say you bought it over in the UK but found a problem with it, and as the shop is worldwide they state on the receipt that it has now been repaired, no trouble with the border, done that twice. My Son's one is up for Sale 42" but he wouldn't recommend Plasma as it does'nt reflects the sun off it and plasma are now a few years old, so LCD if you are looking his number is 0533 877 0732

You might just have blocked this method of getting cheap TVs into the north..

They probably will find out now....you don't know who is looking at this board..

so what? If I could I would hand out ALL smugglers by myself to TRNC officials! This is a realy shitty point! If you live here, pay your taxes, duties and customs! If you dont want this than feel free to leave! I will definitely pass this info on..

My point is... posting details of fiddles on this board is not wise if you are liable to be a repeat offender...

I have no intention of buying a TV in the south... so you don't need to get on your high horse with me... you should address your vitriol to the poster who admits doing just that, twice....

If you were a diviner scryer, blah blah blah... you would know who they are would you not? ;¬)
