lilaclady - do you think you'll be able to manage, especially during July & August, without using the aircon? Just a thought

50 TL to 70 TL per month now with the new tariff is very optimistic IMO. This is the new tariff. http://www.kibtek.com/Tarifeler/YeniTarife_ucretleri.htm The domestic tariff (02) starts on the 3rd line. If you use less than 250 units in a 30 day month then you will pay 0.25 TL per unit + 16.95 TL service charge + 10% KDV (VAT). So 249 units x 0.25 = 62.25 TL + 16.95 TL = 79.20 TL + 10% = 87.12 TL. Approx £30 with the current very high exchange rate. However should you use just 1 unit over 250 in a 30 day month then your 1st 250 units will cost 0.38 TL per unit & anymore over 250 will cost 0.44 per unit. So 251 units bill would cost 250 x 0.38 = 95 TL + 0.44 + 16.95 TL = 112.39 TL + 10% KDV = 123.63 TL. Sterling equivalent today would be £42 per month. Your main expense in the summer, if you manage without A/C, is likely to be the Fridge Freezer running 24/7 or each time it cuts in.

lilaclady, we have a 2 bed property and we don't use our A/C more than 20 minutes in the bedroom each evening, we do however use a fan and you will find that you will need this in July & August. Our bills were always 110-125ytl a month but this month jumped to 259ytl. We don't use electric to heat our home and cannot understand why this should happen but we will see what the bill is next month.

We have a 3 bedroom apartment, dont use aircon, but have a fridge and use the washing machine (clothes) about maybe 5 times per week. Two adults and kid. computer usually on, but TV rarely. Our bill went from about 170 TL in November to 360 this month. We have an electric engine which pulls up water from a well every second day or so. We have discovered that the engine for the whole block is coming off our electricity bill. Anyone know if an electric engine for pulling water is likely to use much electricity?

Last month our bill came on the 22nd November at a cost of 144tl of which 241units were at 0.352tl and 79 units at 0.408 tl on the next higher tariff, but of course as its the weekend coming up we probably won't get our next bill until at least the 27th December so we will have 7 days extra at the higher tariff, very clever way of getting some extra tl from us.

I reckon an average of TL 450 pcm, i.e. TL 5,400 PA at the new tariff, incl aircon in the summer at night for 1 bedroom, and aircon in the living area 6 hours a day. Geoff Famagusta City.
