My deceased father owned sea front land in Kyrenia (the property sits next to a hotel currently). I am in the U.S... what is the current financial climate in that area for interest in such pre-1974 title deeds. There are approximately 14 titles... all land was purchased between 1930 and 1963. I am very curious even if anyone would even have any interest in this property? Propaganda in the U.S. makes it sound as if no one purchases land in Northern Cyprus... Thanks for any information available!

your grandfather bought the land between 1930s and 1960s and it has taken you or your family 40 years to do anything about it, more than likely you have lost it all.

If you are Greek Cypriot this may help The IPC was set up in March, 2006 by Turkey as a way to deal with Greek Cypriot refugees’ property claims. In 2010 the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) ruled that it was an effective domestic remedy, forcing Greek Cypriots unwilling to wait for a solution to the Cyprus problem to apply to the IPC and its appellate body before seeking recourse to the Strasbourg-based court. Applicants at the IPC have three options: restitution, exchange with property in the government-controlled areas or expropriation with compensation, though the overwhelming majority of settled cases have resulted in expropriation. The options stem from the loss of use of property from 1974 onwards. Over 2,000 claims have been lodged, with only 181 cases processed so far through friendly settlement with the IPC paying out about €67 million in compensation. http://www.cyprus-mail.com/cyprus/ipc-deadline-officially-extended/20111208

has the land been transferred to your name?if not you need a lawyer ,its a bit of a lengthy process. the land registry in lca ,if it is in your name will issue you updated title deeds . there are g/c interested in sea front land ,seek a larnaca based lawyer firm (major one)and they can help you with finding a buyer .the ipc pays only a small fraction of what you should get .

Maybe also look on Face Book: Stop the Blackmail as there is also someone asking similar questions to yours. Take heed of Cavalryman's warnings and tread with caution.
