Who would you like to see on the New Years Honours List and why? I'd like to see David Beckham knighted for his services to football and more importantly the charity work that he does all over the world.

Doyen This is a wind up right???? This is an overrated, overhyped average player ( and I used to be a pro player myself so can judge), who has really done nothing but try at all costs to boost his own media presence and that of his appalling wife.Even the sojourn to America was simply to grab money and establish more media rights over there.Any decent footballerwould have wanted a club in Europe where it is competitive but he couldn't hack that as he knew he is past it. And the team he went to failed anyway!!!!!!!!!!!!

goonerstan I went to Aston Villa straight from school and was there until I broke my leg in 4 places which unfortunately ended my pro career. I did come back and played a couple of seasons for Scarborough semi pro but then I broke my neck in a match and my football really came to an end. I played in the same County team as Wilf Rostron who you will probably remember from his Arsenal days. He was a left winger as a youth then Arsenal converted him to full back (defensive as always ha ha)

Doyen, Apparently Beckham was offered a knighthood and said he already had one, but kept forgetting to put it on. Adding: "That's why I've got kids now innit."

It's not only celebrities and ex-footballers that win these awards. Occasionally 'real' people are honoured for doing good deeds and rightly so.

I liked that Pikey. Anyway all this honours rubbish should be scrapped. An archaic system that has outlived its usefulness. It preserves the unjustifiable domain of the aristocracy and the "well connected" and its loyalty to an unelected system of power in the United Kingdom. At the same time it plays to the middle classes by creating the illusion that the Crown and the government care about the nation. It is time to move into the 21st century and scrap the system.

David ermmmm Beckham. Is he the one that kick that round leathery thing as long as it is in a stationary position!!!!!!!!!!!! Whenever you see him out and about he seems to have a twig attached to his arm. As for No 1 and JR, I believe he already has an OBE, quite rightly too. He is a genious of his genre who slipped up recently in a gently joke that went horribly wrong. I do believe in recognising ability at all levels at school, work or in the community but the current UK government has lost the plot in handing out "gongs" to anybody that pays them well. No doubt Thingy Hamilton will get something for driving over the speed limit consistently. Maybe some person who cannot sing will be honoured and someone in the city will get the Order of the Euro. Someone has made the point already, the true recipients of the "gongs" should be those out in the community and recommended by "the people". One thing for sure ------- it will not be me!
