Oday Salih: No I do not feel safe. Each day the events of theft, fraud, forgery, stabbing, have become afraid to walk on the road. There was no such things in our country. God help us if we continue like this. Cavit Ozturk: Events in our country, recently has increased incredibly. We are following this situation in the media. Cypriot society is alien to the crime are facing. For this reason, I do not feel safe at all. Hasan Ak: I do not feel very safe. Crimes in the courts and the media are following the events. These events are not according to our society. Inputs and outputs should be checked, the system should be checked. Emine distinguished: I do not feel safe at all. There are organizations in the recent murders and illegal. These organizations entered the universities. We have to send our children to school. Students in universities in Turkey came to the fights here. This society is not accustomed to such things. http://tinyurl.com/85pzl65

You tell em Hus they dont know what crime is. Dont forget in order to sell papers and get viewers watching telly all they do is highlight these events so you actually feel like there is nothing but crime going in Cyprus but the reality is is very safe.

I have never felt safer than I do here. I would not even venture out in most towns in the uk after 9pm. Unfortunately the newspapers like to sell papers and bad stuff sells more. Bigger problem though is the next thing we know its in the Daily Mail and will do even more harm when those ignorant of how things really are here beleive what they read.

I suppose these people (interviewed) never lived in large cosmopolitan cities like Istanbul or London. I wish to send them to crimial Moscow for a week..Looks like this artcile was ordered to exaggerate relations between Turkey and TRNC.

Unfortunately the modern world has come to TRNC, sad but true. Heaven only knows what the locals would do if they had to live in inner cities in the UK. Agree about the poisoning of animals. I don't feel my dogs are safe any longer.

Agreed, There's more than enough expats with criminal records for violent behaviour to make me - as a Cypriot - feel unsafe in Karsiyaka as it is. That they can masquerade under assumed aliases on well-subscribed bulletin boards makes me more nervous still. Probably just scare-mongering then...

Nope, Merely agreeing with some of the other commentators and pointing out that there are more than enough *convicted* thugs in - say Karsiyaka - to make me feel unsafe there as well. Not shooting the messenger - just elaborating on his point.

I've never felt unsafe in Kyrenia whatever the time of day. Actually that's not strictly true, I have done when entering advocates offices for various reasons, certainly didn't feel safe then.

Even if it is only a perception of being unsafe in Kyrenia, I find it very sad. No one is 100% safe anywhere, but I do feel okay in Kyrenia, however I only go into Kyrenia in the day time and always have my 'hero' with me.

OK, this may be my last message on this board and last day in TRNC. I have to do some shopping at Mr. Pound (buy a new catapult to defend myself), so I'm off now to crime city Kyrenia. Just entered my armoured car and signaled my five mainland 'heavies' to accompany me. I'll keep you all informed about the dangers in Kyrenia...

Update. Just passed the first roadblock between Kyrenia and Karaoğlanoğlu. There seems to be heavy fighting between all the Kyrenia street gangs again. Many tourists try to escape the crime city, but many are robbed and even killed. Still on my way to Mr. Pound. P.S. I'm sure you'll get a more detailed ("translated" via Google) report from our C44 crime reporter "metininkibris" asap.

Just ran your post 35 through goole translate into Turkish and then back into English DC, to get a proper feel for the report. It comes out as. "Update. Karaoglanoglu passed between Kyrenia and the first barricade. Again an intense fight between street gangs seem to have Kyrenia. Many tourists tried to flee the city of crime, however, robbed and even killed many. Again, my way, Mr. Pound. Note: I C44 crime reporter to you as soon as possible "metininkibris" for more information (via the Google "translate") report I am sure you will receive."

UPDATE: Just entered Mr. Pound, where the entrance is now guarded by three armed men, freshly imported from Chicago, USA. Mr. Pound's male staff is also armed (Colt 45) and the always friendly girls inside carry .22 lady guns. Catapults are sold out - all bought by fearful expats, who were warned about 'crime city Kyrenia' on this board. P.S. Now on my way to the Kyrenia harbour, to have a nice Turkish coffee on one of the terraces that used to be so quiet - bullets all over the place now! P.P.S. Saw the C44 crime reporter "metinkibris" in Kyrenia's main street where he interviewed an old lady who was walking her dog. "How frightened are YOU today in Kyrenia?", he insisted. Guess we'll read her answer shortly... P.P.P.S. Oh, how I wish I were back in 'safe' Amsterdam... :-(

It all depends on the perspective! Kyrenia in terms of European & Middle East resorts, must be one of the safest places for tourists and foreigners On the other hand, in terms of traditional Cyprus safety, be it violence or theft, it would fail miserably! The violence has increased due to many factors; the increasing difficulty for some to afford a decent income, the increase in influx of foreign residents with different cultural behavioural patterns, dimunitive attitude towards the local population, and the lack of patience of the native locals (who were traditionally used to an easy going, relaxed life style in the past) Thefts and breaking entering have also shot up due to two factors; The first one is the increase in what's on offer for a thief due to general wealth increase in the society. More shops, more cars, more unoccupied holiday homes... The second one is the abundance of unemployed menial workers who came over from Turkey, or other parts & stay, with no income suppo

tell'em be yorgozlu...just because they came from "large cosmopolitan cities" don't mean they have the right to compare safety of Cyprus with where they came from!! and tell us it's safe here......us Cypriots remember what safe was!!
