msg 1 The website on your link is down. For anyone looking for a relatively cheap to run, as a personal heater only, halogen fire, I can recommend this type. They keep you warm but will not heat a room. We bought 2 of these in the North in 2004 just after the border opened at a similar price. They are very versatile & the remote is useful. After 7 winters in permanent use & now in their 8th year as a backup heater when it's chilly but not really cold, they have performed very well. Only one tube out of 4 in just one fire has packed up in that time & we haven't bothered to find out if it can be replaced. We rarely use more than 2 bars & usually just 1 bar, so at 400 watts per hour they are very cheap to run as electric fires go. They are light, easy to clean & easily packed away at the end of winter. I never came across a 4 heat setting similar fire in the South or one with a remote control. Halogen fires were, back in the Cyprus £s days at least the same price but not as ve

Hi, the site seems to be fine when I click on it. But I have a picture of the item (copied if the above website). Anyone know where I can post it? It is a 'Powerglow Halogen Heater model: NH-16R' The box height is: 350 x 190 x 710mm. I do not actually have one of the heater here with me at the moment, but if you have any questions please ring the above number. And please also try the link again as it works every time for me. Feel free to ring for more info.

Hi I can reccommend these heaters as being very effective to give a nice background heat and a lovely warm glow too if you haven't got a real fire. Even if you have, they are great for the bedroom and as so economical and safe, can be left on all night on a low setting if needs be. Also very portable as so light. Highly reccommended.

Unfortunately, we do not have an Asda over here! (and they are not from Asda) Not sure how much they weigh, but for this or any other info please ring the above number and speak to Den. They are good quality heaters, halogen heaters are not expensive to run either as someone pointed out above. Fully boxed & packaged, 4 bulb - 4 heat options, timer, rotation option, safety grill & safety tilt switch & they come with remote control. 1x unit: £20 / 60TL 2x unit: £35 / 100TL

I wrote about these type of heaters in Nov and if you are west of Kyrenia the butcher in Kasiyaka Square has them in the shop at the same price.

Re msg 11. Not sure how they compare as I have never had a kerosine heater, sorry. I do know that to run these halogen heaters it costs on average (when turned up to the hottest - 4 bulbs) less than 1.50TL an hour.

Re msg 12. They are the same heaters, same seller, but he doesn't want to offer the '2 for £35/100tl, but for some living that side of Kyrenia the seller thought it might be easier. There are still heaters available, they can now be dropped off or picked up anywhere between Catalkoy and Karsiyaka. Please call Den on 0533 883 5371. Prices are the same 1x unit for £20/60TL or 2 units for £35/100TL. Again, we have worked it out to cost, when using the hottest, an average of less than 1.50TL an hour (I think about (1.20-1.30tl an hour). I personally know that our electric bills have been a hell of a lot cheaper since using these instead of the oil radiators or the Ac units. Also doesn't have the sickening smell that the gas heaters do.

Compared with Kerosine heaters they are cheaper to run, especially if you are only using 1 or 2 bars & even following the recent electric price hike. I also use paraffin fires so I do know about the relative running costs. It depends what kilowatt rating the paraffin fire provides too. They come in all different sizes. Paraffin is currently 2.82 TL per litre. However, when it is really cold, the halogen heaters don't throw out nearly so much heat. If it is not too cold they are best & they can easily be switched on & off. So they are very convenient. In an ideal world you want both types of heaters. Also electric fires are no good...... in a power cut. Rough guide to comparative running costs, but not like for like output. Halogen heater running on 2 bars, 800 watts. Cost per hour based on total electric bill in 3rd highest band incl. KDV. 30.5 kurus per hour. Paraffin at 2.82 TL per litre. Assume 1 litre for 4 hours = 70.5 kurus per hour.

ctd. The output of the paraffin fire is 2.45 btu. It's one of the medium size heaters. They are available much larger & smaller too. It runs on 2.75 litre tank for approx 15 to 16 hrs max.
