For anyone looking for a relatively cheap to run, as a personal heater only, halogen fire, I can recommend this type. They keep you warm but will not heat a room. We bought 2 of these in the North in 2004 just after the border opened at a similar price. They are very versatile & the remote is useful. After 7 winters in permanent use & now in their 8th year as a backup heater when it's chilly but not really cold, they have performed very well. Only one tube out of 4 in just one fire has packed up in that time & we haven't bothered to find out if it can be replaced. We rarely use more than 2 bars & usually just 1 bar, so at 400 watts per hour they are very cheap to run as electric fires go. They are light, easy to clean & easily packed away at the end of winter.

I never came across a 4 heat setting similar fire in the South or one with a remote control. Halogen fires were, back in the Cyprus £s days at least the same price but not as versatile.
