Esentepe needs more attention TRNC folks,...

Never anderstand the local bussiness mentality????. Well, just emagin one entrepenuer opens a "supermarket, next you find another ten opened around it "not cheep ones by any mean",...

Another person openes a barber shop now they have 3 barber shops all within a spitting distance from each other, how impressive!!... how about the kebab resturants, one follows the other, next you find twenty kebab resturants around....

Esentepe need more than kebab resturants, barber shops and road cafe. it needs urgently solid enterprises and proper entrepenuers. How about a chemist (pharmacy), gift shops, proper cafe / cake shop (not like the ones overlooking the square).

Esentepe needs to promote its square to atttract tourism, employing local guides to take you around the village and tell you about the history of TRNC, perhaps convert one of the old buildings to a visitor centre...

Esentepe needs to think strategically..

Is that what the Mayor and TRNC locals think or your opinion of what they need?

tomsteel,

I am just raising a point hoping someone "at authority level" see it and perhaps consider taking the idea further.

Esentepe has a great potential, and can be a great area if only adopt urban regeneration policies and strategy that can serve the local population and the visitors all alike;

I mean implementable strategy...

one needs to look at the wider picture. competition is something and the local needs is something else. one must not confuse the two issues. Availability of wide range of services to all is "healthy", as it can benefit the local economy, local health and local welfare.

Msg 5. TRNC has not, as yet, ever thought strategically - or even tacticly, it is all done on the whim. If the Ministers for Tourism and Interior and Immigration et al got together and fashioned a long-term implemantable plan for the country as a whole over a set period, wonders could happen. Will they - rhetorical!

tomsteel,

I appreciate your views regarding the TRNC. The country has long way to go before it catch up with Europe,

perhaps I am a bit optimestic,...

I moved here just over 2 years,.. although I am finding my way round the country, however, in all fairness, I see some progress has been achieved...

Take an example here, roads and trafic improvement is on the move "slow progress, yet something being done". shame some drivers are disappointing...

I follow the newspapers and can see a great deal of calls for change, progress... The Cypriots talk, and raise their voices calling for improvements.... I am sure the government is listening "though not responding fast"!!!

Esentepe, as I said previously has a great potential, and needs to be dealt with now before the change destroy it.

In this forum, I love to hear the voice of the cypriots & Expats all alike, how do they feel about Esentepe

How to improve its facilities and service provision...

Rocky.

Surely, people who have bought homes in Esentepe, to live or as holiday homes, chose this location for its charm and quaintness. Why would anyone want it to "Catch up with Europe" ? You'll be wanting the Euro next !

We chat to the Esentepe Muhter on a weekly basis. There have been major improvements in the village over the past few years and more have been planned and are ongoing - roads, town hall, banks, more PO boxes etc. What the local authorities do not need is expats telling them how to run their village and turn it into a mini-European replica. The charm of the place is the fact it is what it is.

I personally have some concerns that the KKTC is turning into a Mini Tenerife!!! It is rapidly losing so much of its charm and culture, not the Cyprus I experienced on my first visit here!
