Can anyone tell me, can I buy Insurance at the Famagusta crossing for the South.

Yes, cross over to the Greek side (which is actually British SBA) and you can buy it at the shop on the right at the checkpoint.I n fact the SBA guards won't let you pass until you do. Only open daytime BTW.
