it is most probably compressed as a .rar or .zip file so it must first be decompressed before you can play it with a media player..

Winrar is the best software to unzip compressed files..

DD Try downloading VUZE free download /as some torrents will accept and use VUZE as storage and codec support player .If Vuze cannot play when you ask it to it will guide you to internet codec support or player that maybe will open it

Daisy, does the file name have an extension? Three characters after a dot? If so, which three characters?

DD

What you download using a torrent is not a torrent but file of one of a variety of other types.. be it ,mp4 .mp3 .avi .mkv .epub .mobi etc. etc.

So what is the full filename of file you have downloaded using a torrent?

It may be that you simply need a codec (coder - decoder) installed to enable your media player to play the format... usually but not always K-Lite Codec Pack (which is available free) will solve the problems of file type not playing due to unknown format.
