This is my 3rd Winter here.I cannot remember it being so cold and wet as it has been recently.I remember bad February's and windy March's.

But not so cold, windy and wet as now.

Can any more experienced locals give their views on this weather.

Will it mean an earlier Spring?

Are you not getting any nice sunny days inbetween the cold spells? That is the norm at this time of year as far as I remember. Never too far away from a nice day or two.

Spring is a lovely time out there too isn't it.. lots of green about and flowers too.

Hi Mike . . Ian here, . . 2005 January. . rained 3 solid weeks, power cuts, no electric, no log fire. . . Adversity can be a good teacher. . . Hope you're keeping busy. Cold in UK, but we have central heating, and congestion, and stress. . . . But hey. . . TESCO now does Efes. See you soon.

We were not expecting it to be quite so cold. But we hear the worst is yet to come in February.

O well, we're still having a great time. We have had a few sunny spells throughout the day, even if there is a cold wind with it.

HI Mike.

We have lived here for nearly 20 yrs, we have seen snow on the car in the mornings and ice on puddles.

My wife is convinced the weather has a 7yrs cycle.

As said in msg 10, yes it will be colder, if we get sun it is very nice until about 4 pm then it gets very cold.

Then the winds will come, if there is snow on the Toros mountains and there is a north wind then it will be very cold.

I am now very glad we have central heating, albeit it costs a lot to run, but we are warm.

Hi Karmels,I remember huge hailstones 2 winters ago, like bombs landing on the pool.

There was snow on the mountain above Alsancak over a month ago, only for a few hours.

I'm more worried about vegetable crops,I have potatoes and broad beans through the ground. In Wales,my garden was like a field of bubblewrap even in April.I expect I will be eating then by that time over here !!!

Although it has been cold here, it can get much colder believe me. it is over 16 dedrees in my lounge now at 14.39 hrs. Sometimes the day time temperature drops to 8 degrees centigrade indoors. That is uncomfortably cold.

The sun is shinning now and the warmth is coming into the lounge, you dont get that in late January in the UK.

rejela. Here in Cheshire we have had lovely sunny mornings for the last 3 days going chilly in the afternoon and frost at night but dried lots of washing outside.

Sounds a bit odd but would be lovely to have an all glass conservatory facing the sun this time of the year. Never ever seen one here.

Woodspeckie (mess 18) I agree it has been beautiful, my central heating boiler decided to go on the blink!! didn't realise until my grandaughter came in the evening and said it's a little cool in here (thought she meant I was "cool" Gas Board came next day and fitted a new fan (thank goodness insured)! when it's cold the sun shines through and warms my conservatory! but the nights have been bloody cold! but what beautiful clear days! and what about the snowdrops! and the Winter Flowering Jasmine! a picture to behold

TRNCvictim. We have snowdrops, crocus, small iris, primroses and even passion flowers and clematis still in flower, it's a pleasure to have a walk round the garden mid morning taking my coffe with me.
