Actualy sounds like a simple question but actualy its not that simple in practice.

The main ways would be to either use a speedtest service or to simply download something and see what spped you get for that download. Where it get's complicated is understanding that results that either of these things produce that show you are getting less than the 4mb/s do not necessarily mean that you provider here has not upgraded you or you are not getting what you have paid for. The reason why is that any speedtest or download from the internet will involve elements that are simply not under your provider's control in anyway, and these elements may be the cause of 'bad' results from any given test or download.

If your provider has set up a speed test service that specificaly only tests the section of network that they do control directly, then this would be the best way to check your speed. [cont]

Some providers will provide such an 'isolated' speedtest function and some will not. Multimax the internet provider that I work for does provide such a speedtest. Other may or may not.

If your provider does not you can use a generic speedtest service, but you should test then against a range of different places and understand that bad results do not prove that your connection is not working as it should. You should also try the test several times for each location you test to.

A site for generic speedtest would be http://www.speedtest.net/

I would suggest finding sites in the UK and testing multiple times against a range of different uk locations. If you never get above 2mbs on any then it would indicate (but not prove) that you may not have been upgraded sucsessfuly. If you get some result showing 3-4mbs and some showing less this would indicate you have been upgraded. But unless your ISP provides a speedtest specific to them, that tests only their bit of the network,

these generic test are not definative but only indicative.

Sorry if I have made all that sound very complicated when all you wanted was a simple answer to an apparently simple question.

Hi citychick

Firstly you should understand that any internet based TV viewing will not work as reliably as 'old' broadcast systems where you used to just turn on your TV and it works. Even if your internet connection is working perfectly and to its maximum capacity, there can and sometimes are issues that are not down to your intertnet connection but simply down to the people who send the content to you (bbc or ITV or whoever). Having said that we a good internet provider here net based TV should work most of the time. I would say something like bbc iplayer should work around 90% of the time. Also do not forget that with BBC you can also download programs as well as stream them and that if you do download them first then once they have completed the download you are not reliant on your internet connection to watch them , beyond a little tiny bit of sending and reciveing data to check 'digital rights'; when you first start playing them.

lot of times your dishes moved and cable problems and last time when we send the boy to your house to check then its was from your remote...somebody in your house pressed wronge button so you were not getting any pay channells.

but any way you can check your speed test from our website as well ...
