You must be referring to Elko Voltage Protector. A surge protector is something else. My voltage protectors are normally set at 258 volts maximum, so it should trip the RCD over that. If it did not, I need answers to diagnose the problem: Was it flashing at 288 volts or not? If it was not flashing then somebody changed the settings or one remote possibility it slipped through without setting it. If it was flashing, it either means a) your RCD is faulty which you can test by simply pressing on the test button on your RCD, or b) the resistance in the unit has burned out. In this case I will repair it free of charge with a new resistance with a higher rating. If the setting is wrong, I can tell you how to reset it. ismet

I see that you live in Karsiyaka. I will be passing through Karsiyaka tomorrow (Friday), so if you tell me where you are (ismetus@gmail.com ) I will try to contact you and sort it out for you or give you another one. Or 0533 862 9150 ismet

ismet I cannot remember now but are there possibly 2 ratings for RCB's. I think originally they were rated at 300ma (maybe 350ma) but then I am sure they were up rated to 500ma (or there about) Is this where the problem maybe?

The older ones are rated at 500 ma and the newer ones 300 ma. Once the setting is exceeded, it sends roughly 700 ma to earth, thus sufficient to trip both types. Of course some older houses are fitted with voltage type of earth trips and these will not trip at all. In this instance the resistance supplying the earth current will burn itself in less than a second, thus there is no safety risk. Hence the reason why I do not use a resistance with very high wattage. ismet

Ismet I am trying to understand how your over voltage protector works. I assume that you have an OEM electronic module that monitors the supplied voltage and outside of the set parameters of that module it will operate a relay with series resistor that produces the required current to trip the consumers RCB. Is this correct?

Exactly as you described it. It is a Programmable Digital Voltmeter and you can set maximum and minimum voltages. Once the voltage goes outside the set limits the small relay (rating 2 A) will operate and you can do what you like with that relay. In fact you can also programme the differential and the time delay. So if you use the relay to operate a contactor, you can set the max and min voltages so that the relay will open the contactor when the voltage goes outside set limits and if you set the differential to say 3 volts, the contactor will make again when the voltage goes 3 volts below the maximum or 3 volts above the minimum. The delay time can be set from 0.0 to 99.9 seconds. I can sell these units separately with connectors. I have similar units for current as well up to 5 amperes. You must use a current transformer above 5 amps. ismet

If in Girne, you can obtain them from Tektan, retail 100 TL. It covers the whole house and not just a ring circuit. ismet

Well, I noticed this second time round. Elko Voltage protector will protect you against a disaster lişke all electrical equipment burning out same time i.e. if the neutral breaks and you get anything over 258 vots it will cut off your electricity. However if you wish to protect your tv closely you should buy a Voltage Regulator that keeps the voltage almost constant at 220 volts. 0.5 KVA Digital Elko Regulator retails at 105 dolars. ismet
