in connection to a concert that was canceled in 2010 on the grounds that the territory is an “illegal organization.”

Iglesias’ management company, which has a Turkish partner, demanded $10 million in damages, saying they had been “deceived” and that they did not know about Turkish Cyprus’ ill-defined diplomatic situation or that the territory’s structure lacked “governmental characteristics.”

The U.S. based management company, Creative Talent Agency (ICTA) and the Voyager Cyprus Company’s hotel, Merit Crystal, signed an agreement in October 2010 for an Iglesias concert. However, after pressure by Greek Cyprus, the concert was cancelled, while the retainer fee taken was not returned to Voyager.

Voyager sued ICTA in Florida, requesting the money back, but was unsuccessful. On Aug. 12, 2011, ICTA sued Voyager in Washington and also sued Turkish Cyprus. According to a written statement in the case, ICTA said Turkish Cyprus was an illegal organization.

surely this is par for the course:

it is not a secret that the trnc like somaliland and various other territories

...lacks international recognition

interesting to see how the case turns out if it ever makes it to court since

the original agreement would have been between individuals

also included in the management's company's counterclaim, or so hurriet

translates, is a notion that the north lacks "governmental characteristics"

...try telling that to demtrios cristofias, since one can only ask with what

sort of entity has he been "negociating" these last four years?

If the claimants included a Turkish partner how is it likely that they were deceived with regard to the status of the TRNC ? What is the point of suing an embargoed country which does not have a pot to p in ?

deputydawg:

as far as the report in "hurriet" is concerned, this looks very much like a

defensive counterclaim the general idea being to reject claims of breach

of contract ...and obviously to keep the lawyers in business

I think there is no need to read too much into it

Loulou, Msg11,

"Begin the Beguine" was a number 1, UK hit for Julio, in the 80's. It was written by Cole Porter and refers to a close, intimate and slow dance, hence the analogy , because that is what a court case ,in Northern Cyprus, is going to turn out to be ! Hope this enlightens you !
