Hi all this is probably a futile question but is the anyone out here that deals with specialist removal of black mould, it has appeared everywhere in our house this winter and is making us sick and after doing some research on the web it seems you need a specialist to remove it properly from your home. I would be grateful of any info or advice. Thanks

Unfortunately permanent cures are difficult if not impossible due to the constantly high levels of moisture...(the mould is in the very fabric of the walls) brushing the walls with bleach will help remove surface mould, and the application of mould inhibitor will slow down the re-growth ........As you know from your other post, a de-humidifier will help, and open windows on sunny days will aid ventilation..

unfortunately i have been doing all of the above on a regular basis to no avail, the walls / ceilings have been treated the last two winters for mould with anti-fungal solution but it keeps returning and i have read that just brushing with a bleach solution does nothing except release more mould spores into the air and causes it to spread it need to be contained and specialist protective clothing needs to be worn to prevent inhalation of the spores which are toxic and can cause illness. Hence my need for professional services as the mould this year is much worse and i do believe is the cause of me and my family being ill as we have many of the symptoms. The info for those of you who are interested can be found here. http://www.black-mold-guide.com/symptoms-of-toxic-mold-exposure.html http://www.black-mold-guide.com/black-mold-in-homes.html http://www.black-mold-guide.com/

I had the same problem in my shop in london, few years back,on an extention wall (guessing it was built by a cowboy). Bleached and washed it for 4-5 days every day, then brush painted it with pvc liquid mixed with water 50/50,then painted after.Never got rid of the damp but mould never surfaced anymore.

Unfortunately it's so common here!! Keeping a room warm is really the only cure, and not with either gas or paraffin heaters (they give out moisture) dry heat i.e. electric is the only one that works. Friends who have central heating (we don't) never seem have to mould in their property.

as previous posters, air vents help, eg drill holes in window frames and cover with metal grills if you aint got vents. Also keep air circulating in villas and apartments when shut up leave internal doors open and clipped back open. To remove black mould brush with 50% bleach 50% water then overpaint when dry. Not sure if you can get stain cover in Cyprus but if you do all above should not have problems..

How are you heating your house? Some heaters actually increase humidity. Is the mould due to penetrating damp? If it isn't you could try painting it with a proper undercoat UK type, a sealer like PVA or a damp proofer. These will block the mould behind them and prevent re-occurence. If it is penetrating you need to deal with the damp penetration. If the mould is because you have condensation look at ways to decrease the humidity. Sort out the cause and you will find the cure.
