Walking along coast track in Karsiyaka this morning and we were discussing the look out post there. As far as friends and I were aware this is still an operational military position. If so there are quite a number of homes being built both within clear site and within 500 metres. Has any one applied for, received or had permission denied in that area? I ask this question to enable anyone who is buying there to ensure they double check and check again the situation as this post is not obvious if you are not driving or walking close to it.

Some of the lookout posts are only for fire watching up to the hills and may not count as sensitive military establishments.... I mean what are you going to discover... a bloke is in there looking at the hills or no bloke is in there .... It's an interesting question right enough...

CIH if you are talking about the one up the track opposite the stone house that has been built by Ground Force then it is purely for fire watch. During the summer months two guys work there on 24 hour shifts watching the mountains. Their "patch" is between Kayalar and Alsancak. It has now ceased operating for the winter.

Joandjelly, That'll be because with all the rain we've had it's too wet to have a fire... err sounds like a bad plan... walking out over the rough ground it's fairly obvious it's still tinder dry out there... the undergrowth snaps, crackles and pops underfoot.. there is little if any moisture. Once all the chimneys start puffing out sparks there's going to be a few fires. If you've used a chimney a lot here and it's not been swept then the soot can easily catch and the whole chimney lights up... people who don't have real fires in the UK due to central heating may not think of this be taking chances... Where's Dick Van Dyke when you need him?

Fair comment Jo, Just wanted to be sure for those in that area. The issue keeps cropping over the last year. Thanks.

Groucho I'm sure it is an economic decision and as you know here in Cyprus Winter starts on a particular date regardless of the actual weather conditions! They have only just finished when they would normally expect to pack up at the end of October. Poor guys are paid an absolute pittance and there is no electricity up there.
