Apart from the fact that unless your car is under 3 or 5 years old (still not sure from what I have read so far which it is) you can't import it, what are the benefits, in terms of import taxes and duties plus annual taxes, of bringing in a 1959 XK150 or should I sell it in the UK?

A classic car must be over 25 years of age and you have to liaise with and join the Classic & Sports Car Club of North Cyprus as they will arrange the import licence for you. Thereafter your annual car tax will be discounted by 65%. The import duties are calculated on the original (1959) price of the car and you will need to provide documentary proof of this (from a dealer or classic club in the UK).

For further information about rules and taxes see here (message 3 onwards) http://www.cyprus44.com/forums/75771.asp

One thing to add to this is that we did have to have an emissions test this year when we had our classic MOT'd.

Thanks. I must admit that from what I have read about importing a car into the TRNC, and the import duties charged on an almost new car, this is really good news. The car is 3.4L so I hope that with

the 65% discount the annual taxes won't be too high. Thanks again.

The tax is more to do with the weight of the vehicle and you need to be aware that the first time you tax it (after paying all the import duties etc) it will be at full price. Our 1979 Mercedes 450 SLC costs around 500TL p.a. to tax now.

Muskrat,

The original selling price of your car in 1959 was £2110.

So the import duty will be based on this price plus a fixed rate of maybe $3,000 plus a % to the army and others.

The imort duty won't be too great but I would think twice about taking such a valuable car over.

Thanks Sideways,

My wife, who has been living in Lapta since October, tells me that the weather has been atrociuos and the road outside our villa is a mudbath and the small tarmaced roads have deteriorated. Would hate to part company but it is such a beautiful car to drive that I would hate to see it damaged. As you could guess, currently it's a summer weekend, or frosty winter morning, dream-drive only!
