Hi there, I've read some previous thread regarding people going to clinics for MRI scans for various complaints. Is it possible to do this as a tourist/visitor, or do you need to be resident on the island? How do I make enquiries about this, obtain prices etc. I am visiting in April and am considering getting some tests done while over, as it seems it would be considerably cheaper than in the UK. Any info would be much appreciated, thank you

No you don't need to be a resident. You can walk off the street and ask for one (but you won't necessarily get it that day) I did that at the NEU (although in fact I do live here, it made no difference) As a visitor they will ask for your Passport which you hand over (just in case you refuse to pay). You get a scan for about a quarter of the price than UK and the result the next day. You are given a written report in Turkish (ask on the day of the scan if you want an English translation) You are also given a DVD of your scan to take home. It's interesting to stick it in your own PC and see pictures of yourself from the inside out!!

Contact either of these: Near East University Hospital 0392-6751000 or Letam 0392-2273147. Both of them are in Lefkosa and are very professional. Ring them for prices - a lot will depend upon what 'part' you need scanned. They will both give you reports in English if required. You may find that Letam are a bit cheaper than NEU. You will normally get an appointment within a day or so at either place. Letam's MRI scanner is in a building almost opposite the state hospital in Lefkosa.
