Normally I try to have all the answers, but I have come unstuck. I am off to Australia on Tuesday (courtesy of the generosity of a wonderful friend) and had been offered a lift (I am not much good at asking for favours) but the car that was taking me is busted (transmission). I find to my horror that charges of £50, £60 and even £65 are levied for a one way journey.More than a week;s pension money for many. Is anyone else going to Larnaca on Tuesday and would share a taxi, or is anyone going over that would take me (paying petrol etc, of course).

I am then faced with a similar expense on my return, but for now, I need to get there. My husband woudl have taken me, but he doesn't drive any more. any (helpful) suggestions please. ??

If you can get a lift to Nicosia there is the Kapnos Airprt Shuttle bus to Larnaca. Costs about 7 Euros.

Hi Marion,

May be a good idea to put the time you need the lift.

Also, I think NC taxis were charging £40 single on a previous thread.

Good luck.

Marion the buses seem an iffy option in the south at the moment

COMMUNICATIONS ministry and bus companies yesterday continued meeting in a bid to iron out their differences and bring an end to the bus drivers’ strike, which has been inconveniencing the public since last Wednesday.

According to media reports yesterday, the two sides hope to reach an agreement by the time the weekend was over.

Speaking to the CyBC yesterday, Communications Minister Efthymios Flourentzos said the differences between the two sides “are shrinking”.

“I hope a solution is found,” said the minister. “We are awaiting a response from the bus companies regarding our suggestions and alternative proposals that we posed (on Friday night).”

Bus drivers across the island – except the Larnaca District, who stopped striking on Wednesday night after reaching an agreement with the ministry – have been on strike over the companies’ failure to pay them their January wages.

cont

The result was thousands of passengers – old and young – being inconvenienced, with some school children even being unable to turn up to school.

Thanks folks. I have to be at Larnaca around 5.30 - flight at 7.30p.m. but already 'booked in' on line. Yes I can get to nicosia, but from where do the buses start ?In the light of what is said above, could be a dangerous game! also with my luggage, not sure the old spine can take walking too far with a heavy load.

will try NC Taxis - I presume they are on an earlier thread, but those I have been told are cheap are still qjuoting £55. So, on the advice of a friend, if I can find one for £40 I will tell the world (well, those who read The Star) just how wonderful the service is! and why, why, why do they charge in sterling?

Have tried N.C taxis and they want £50! Another I wa stold is £40 is 'number not assigned'. It is daft, because I would have thought someone could have squeezed me in on a run. Instead of which no one is getting any business because of the expense. It might be cheaper for me to drive myself and leave the car, except that is not such a good idea! Obvious reasons.
