Passing houses and seeing BIG dogs in cages just twice their size. Never walked. Surrounded by their poo and water bucket empty. Not referring to hunting dogs either. What is the point!!!

Post 1 - did you complain to the owners? If not, why not if you are so concerned?

Small cages, now which kennel is it that's got them? Can't cope? After all don't spend an extra 10tl on petrol driving anywhere else.

Hans, I think the question is legitimate. This practice is widespread and like the poster I do not understand the point. Grateful if anyone can explain the thinking/reason for keeping animals under these conditions

I don't profess to know the answer, but I suspect the reason a lot of people have dogs under these conditions is guard dogs cos they bark when anyone comes close to the property. So they are a comodity not a pet and that's the part we can't come to terms with I suppose.

Msg. 7 I think you're correct. These dogs are NOT thought of as pets, they are considered a useful tool and bark when anyone goes near the property. The fact that most are completely mental after a year of this treatment, matters not one jot to the owners. When they die, they are thrown away and another one bought, just like a second hand fridge. They consider these dogs have no feelings, don't feel heat, don't feel cold, don't go hungry or thirsty. .................just a tool.

Message 9. No haven`t seen the fox, but did see the animals at Green Heights and the state they were in. Seem to remember a group from the forum were going to monitor improvements promised by the owner, but have not heard anything. (Although I could have missed it).

msg 9: I live near Baris Park and go there most days, weather permitting. The Belideye have done a grand job there. The fox; when it first appeared about a year or so ago, it was really timid. It used to hide under the logs or on the wall. Now it comes to the mesh. gets on it's hind legs and holds on with it's front paws. Just like a dog. I don't think releasing it back into the wild would be a good idea. About as bad as locking it up in the first place. Lisa

I wish I could feel as confident about the welfare and behaviour of the fox as you do Msg. 14. I don't see it as much as you obviously do but the only time I've seen it it was prowling back and forth, back and forth for hour after hour, just like "big cats" in old fashioned Zoos. Very distressing to see it. I saw some old bits of bread there, but it might be fed carrion from time to time, I have no idea at all. People stick all sorts of stuff in the cage.

disgusting the way a lot of dogs are treated, i think they must like torturing them, as everyone knows all living creatures need food and water to live!

msg 15>Msg 14, who feeds the fox? and cleans his cage? They have lots of staff at Baris Park, and lots of other cages too, mostly birds. The land train for the kids is operational now. If you haven't visited for a while you'll be surprised at the work they've done. msg 16; never said I was confident about it's welfare. I don't think it should have been put there in the first place, but releasing it now it is so tame would be a mistake. T

It didn't seem tame to me just bored it was pacing up and down the water was dirty and I didn't see a feeding bowl. Yes they have made a grand job of the park just don't think the fox should be there. If it was released in the right place then it should be fine. It was probably prowling round the bird and chicken pens was caught and caged up.

Babrew. Foxes should not be in cages they are wild animals and would have company where they should be - in the wild.

I see it everyday, and it makes me very upset every time...I even complained to KAR and they went and checked and said that the dog was in good conditions and that it looks like the dogs kennels in KAR.......but to me the cage is in a horrible state and it was just like what you had said about poo everywhere and never walked...it really is like whats the point in having a dog? If your not going to love the animal ! Do you have the dog for security for your house??? I got a solution for people like that , BUY A SECURITY SYSTEM....instead of making a dog suffer and wonder what has he done so wrong to be treated so badly :( I watch this dog everyday behind my business... and whenever I feed him, it looks like he hasn't eaten in days :(
