Can anyone advise me please on who may be able to help with a problem with log burner

It was bought from Ray at Greenium a few years ago now and I don't know if they are around anymore or the phone number, or indeed anyone who could help.

Dont think it is the chimney as smoke is coming from outside but also blowing smoke out from inside the stove into the lounge!

TIA

Charlotte

It happened to mine when it was breezy so I had the stack made higher and a cowl also fitted which stopped the back draft from the roof.

charlotte55, you say you have had the stove a few years,

Is this the first time this has happened or have you had this problem previously ?

If it is the first time then maybe flue needs sweeping.

Also remember that atmospheric conditions will make an amazing difference to the way the smoke discharges.IE on a damp overcast day smoke will not go away so easily, also until the flue is warm the stove may not draw so well.

Very often you need a spinning cowl,

Are you burning different fuel ? Is your wood dry and seasone ?

Just a few pointers, also do your fire ropes (the seals need replacing).

Be very careful because you may also have Carbon Monoxide coming back into the room.

Remember, this is a woodburner and not an incinerator.

JohhnyLee - excellent!

One more I discovered - Have you stopped all drafts into your room this year, fitted door seals and things?

No draft in the room means no draft for your fire means smoke in the room and big CO danger in your house.

Hi,

Although Greenium no longer have a shop, Ray is still on the island and will still maintain through an engineer your woodburner. We had the same problem as yourself and contacted Ray on the following tel. no. 0533 8480373

This was very recent, so should be no problem.

It might just be that the rope arouond the door will need replacing. We have a Villager stove, and they recommend that every 3 years the replaced.

Yes also like waddo says, draft in equals draft out.

Whilst double glazing and draft free homes are nice and cosy they are not always healthy.

When I was a kid we had a blazing coal fire and drafty doors and windows, but we would pull our chairs up around the fire and they do say that germs and dust etc was litterallly sucked up the chimmney.
