It's a special oil, mine is labeled "Makita...Saw Chain oil"

Bought it where I bought the chain saw, in the South at Superhome.

A daft answer Top Ten. But Chainsaw Oil , I take it you mean for the chain there is a chamber for it, and you should always top it up at the same time you top your two stroke mix up. (unless it's electric.)

Most of the Yapi Markets normally have it. I normally get mine from the one near Bektash in Lapta.

Its not a daft question Lee it is a electric one and yes there is a chamber for oil but what oil,I know its not standard lubrication oil, is it Hydrolic ? I would of course have loved a petrol one BUT you need a PERMIT for these, presumedly Lee if you own a petrol one you have said permit

It's normally called Chain Oil. It is very thick and sticky.

I have an electric one and use that the normally on our land. I do have a brand new petrol one also never used yet because of the permit situation.

I was told recently that there are two permits ? one if you just want to use it on your own land, but also a special one if you take out . Supposedly quite hard to get.

Quite understandable (there would be on trees left).

But this year the locals near us seem to cutting everything down, alive or dead.

It really is chainsaws at dawn.

Funny story a couple of years back I'd got a local "Tree Sugeon" doing some work on our land, and he kept telling me Lee if your going to use your chain saw you must get the licence.

Later on that morning a guy turns up in a blue jumper and starts talking with the "Tree Surgeon" and want's to see our land Kocan.

Next thing I know he's walking off with the guys chainsaw, Yes you've guessed he did not have a licence.

Use only chain oil, it is anti throw, if you cannot get it then use vegetable oil

I will be damned. First time I hear about the licence or permit to use a petrol one. Well I do have a petrol one and the shop selling it never warned me about it.

As for the oil for the chain, I simply use the normal 20-50, the same for my car. As long as it lubricates the chain and cuts the wood without burning the wood its fine. I never knew that they sell special oil for the purpose.

Last year a chap from the forestry department came and sharpened my chain and also showed me how to do it but he never mentioned the permit. Perhaps we do not need a permit in the Republica Famagusta

Do not, do not, use motor oil, particularly used motor oil.

Chain oil is designed to be anti throw in that it sticks to the chain, motor oil is designed to be thrown on the cylinder walls (simple explanation)

Used motor oil is the worst thing you can use apart from being reputably cacogenic it is harmfull to the environment. It also has lost some of its lubrication properties.

Good quality chain oil will extend the life of your chain. You should also adjust the oil feed depending on type of wood you are cutting.

Power saws work at their best cutting fresh wood. If you cut dry wood the oil feed needs turning up.

Rough estimate is one fill of oil to two petrol.

Make your own if cost effective. 1/3 part STP to 2/3 part motor oil (sae 30). This will give the 'stickiness', the same as chain-lube.

The object/advantage of Veg oil is that it is fully Biodegradable and is far less of an environmental problem..don't forget that chain saws operate on a "total loss" lube system, unlike your motor car..
