I imported my car from the UK, It was registered with NC number plates, when I purchased car insurance here, I paid extra to cover me in the south, in addition to this, I paid approx 25 euro's at the border which covered me for a month.

jeanbrads69 - don't forget to take your UK driving licence with you as you will need this for the road tax.

The road tax is free and you get it from the first booth. You will need this document before you can get your insurance. Don't worry it's very easy and the customs people will direct you.

Lindsay, I was told if you have four or more speeding fines, then your NC car insurance is cancelled and therefore not able to drive. Unfortunatley the ban goes against the owner of the vehicle regardless of who was driving. In the case of a hire car, then the fine goes against the first named driver.

Lindsay, It's not road tax but a reciprocal MOT certificate. If it was a tax it would cost on top of the 3rd Party Insurance....

Reporting - It was a local guy who said "four and cancellation" but the police told a friend that it goes against the owner/primary driver when she went to pay a fine, if several people drive one car then the police said you can apply to get a picture of the driver but this costs money in addition to the fine
