We are flying to Ataturk airport and looking for an inexpensive hotel for a few nights, want one with easy access to public transport to visit the sights, any links would be very helpful

http://www.esanshotel.com/

I stayed here in December. It is very close to the Topkapi Palace and all the major tourist attractions are in walking distance. Very friendly, helpful staff and reasonably priced too.

Hi there, you can paste this on google maps "TAKSİM SQUARE, Sıraselviler Caddesi, Istanbul, Turkey" and check out the area, you will see hotel signs and underground signs.. there is different ways of transport from taksim to anywhere in istanbul... have a nice journey..

I asked the same question some months ago and intend doing the Istanbul trip later this year but I was recommended the Erboy Hotel.

Not stopped there yet but it comes highly recommended.

I second the Erboy hotel from msg #5. Stayed there about a year ago for 4 nights and it was great. The restaurants that are part of that hotel group are also very good. And as a guest you get about 15% off the bill.

Friends recommend http://www.minahotel.com.tr/index.asp

It's in the heart of Sultanahmet and therefore ideal for sightseeing.

google the Istanbul metro map and print it off.

Look for hotels near the route in an area you want, Sultanahmet was best for us, but as long as you are by the metro route, it will be easy.

When you arive at Ataturk, take the metro to your hotel area, only 2tl, and save a taxi fare.

You will easily find info on the net on all hotels, and then just check it again on trip advisor.

Many hotles offer an airport pick up for about 20Eu. or you can book these on the net too before going.

We got a good deal last December through Expedia at the Best Western 'President' - although the usual cost is quite expensive. It was excellent and very close to the trams as well as the main tourist attractions - Grand Bazaar, Blue Mosque etc

We have stayed at the Erboy Hotel three times and it is excellent. The staff are amazingly helpful and will suggest places to visit and the cheapest ways to get there and also supply you with a map. The food in this hotel is Ottoman Cuisine and sooo good. We book with Alpha rooms who generally seem the cheapest for this hotel. You'll find the information in this link:

We stayed at this hotel so check out the reviews (excellent)

in January and it was great, two mins to the trams, which we used extensively, to get to all the sights. Suggest you take a whole day tour (€70 but well worth it and with lunch) as you get to see so much more with a trip on the Bosphorus too.

Enjoy, a fasinating city and we will go again in October probably.

niceone,

Check this place out for location and price. Stayed there last weekend and have to say everything about the place was 1st class including the staff, the room and the food.

The location is very handy for public transport and they offer excursions from the hotel, although we just followed our noses and headed off ourselves. You can walk to the Bosphorous cruises and they are very reasonable. Spice market is just a 10 minute walk, etc.

We stayed at the Hotel Tashkonash. Very good reviews on trip adsvisor. Reasonably prices and a short step from the Blue Mosque, the Roman cisterns, Aghia Sophia and grand Bazaar, which are the places to go to on your first visit. There is a great roof top terrace for breakfast with fantastic views of the Bosphorous, great for chilling out and watching the ships and boats.

I'm going to stay at the Opera Hotel next month, just around the corner from Taksim square, I'll let you know it goes, but it looks lovely and modern and the rooms aren't tiny cubicles! Only built last year so it won't be old and musty like some others and the prices are good too.

There is an area very close to Taksim Square. Its called Talimhane and is a block of about 4 streets full of hotels. It is blocked to all traffic accept taxis and has 24 hour security. I have stayed in a few hotels there and such as The Point, Nippon, Elite. have a look at their websites.

We stayed at the Hotel Tria. Small, friendly, restaurants close by and only 5 minutes walk from all the major sights. http://www.triahotelistanbul.com/
