can anyone tell me if there is a place called "lidra" in lefkosia...
If so, please describe it for me. I mean how i can get there.

| Go down the road with lots of parked cars on it,... turn left at the bottom,.. carry on till you come to the big statue,.. first left then second right over the roundabout and 100yds on the left there is a bloke selling carpets,............................. ask him ? |

Is the description u made above in city centre... im asking because i dont really know lefkosia... just wanted to be sure... |

Leftkosia is the name for Nicosia, the capital city of 'south' Cyprus and also the Turkish Republic of North Cyprus, divided by the "Green Line" a UN buffer zone between the two countries. Ledra street is a major border crossing point used to travel between the two. If you have a look at the bottom of the main page on this forum and click on the "Border Crossings" tab it will provide the information you need.

| @ msg 3 & 4: Here are the facts: Nicosia used to be the capital of Cyprus before the island got divided (1974) and the name is still widely used in the world.
South Nicosia, in the Greek speaking part of Cyprus (RoC, Republic of Cyprus), is known as Lefkosia.
The Northern part, in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC/KKTC) is known as Lefkoşa (or Lefkosha as it may be spelled/written by English speaking people).
"Lidra" is spelled Ledra, an ancient name for Nicosia.
A pedantic post, but true...  |
